Horror is my primary genre. But if I had to give it up I'd probably want to write pulpy crime or sword and sorcery.

Susan Savage Lee@susansavagelee.bsky.social

If you could never write in your chosen genre again, what would you write instead. I write horror stories, so I would probably turn to psychological thrillers next #writingq #WritingCommunity

The difference between a judicial warrant and an administrative warrant is the difference between a $20 bill and a napkin that a fascist wrote "twenty dollars" on.

I never post. Because generally I think who cares what I think or feel. Posting online is frequently just screaming into the void. Sometimes I need that though. So-- FUCK FASCIST. FUCK ICE. FUCK TRUMP.

On this day in 1928, James Randi was born in Toronto. An accomplished stage magician, he was also a scientific skeptic who challenged paranormal and pseudoscientific claims using his magician background. He was a frequent guest on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

We stayed up to watch The Perseids, but with every streak of light there was a single scream. Not from the earth, but from above. We wanted to watch, but we didn't want to hear. So hands against ears. We enjoy the show, without the trouble of having to listen. #HorrorWritersChat

Question 2 What would make me give up writing horror?... I'll be honest, if there's a steady paycheque in it, I'll write whatever you want. #HorrorWritersChat

Question 1 Conner. I write a bit of everything. Primarily horror comedies. I love hearing about peoples jobs. The weird little details. #HorrorWritersChat

I hate in movies with medieval combat to make one side seem like tactical geniuses the other side has to be completely brainless. Just put the bar on the floor and pretend a shield wall was a brilliant singular maneuver rather than a obvious standard.

Screw your favorite book, which was the first that upset you? A Wrinkle in Time was mine. The possessed baby scared the everloving shit out of me. My babysitter had to call my mom to come home early because I was hysterical.

THE LAST OF US but it's 90 minute experimental film about the staff of a restuarant silently and solemnly cleaning up for the night... occasionally someone of camera wails... but no one reacts, and we never see who...

THE LAST OF US but it’s Beanie Babies.

Coming out of this election, while we celebrate a torie defeat, lets not just focus on the big bad losing, lets also look at the PPC, whose vote counts in some places seem so low, that it's clear that candiates couldn't convince there own familes to vote for them.

Sometimes, you labour over whether or not a character should stab another character, and then you struggle with the decision of... "Should they stab them again?"

Conner@connermac.bsky.social

Some times, writing is plotting, exploring themes, letting the poetic prose flow... other times you're just sitting there thinking, "Should this character stab this other character?"

Reminder to writers out there. Some times a break is exactly what you need. Walk away for a few hours, or even a few days. Put your mind elsewhere and come back. I know, if you're not writing you're not breathing. But it's okay, play a fucking video game, read a book, watch tv. Then come back.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

Back in 2020, I was nearing the complition of a comic, I was 7 pages away from finishing the art. Then I entered the worst point of my life, and stopped drawing comics, and started writing prose. Last night for the first time in years I looked at that comic... Here are some of my faviourite pages:

My favourite annoying example of this is Jurassic World 2. I watched the movie confused because its established there's two islands, so the eruption wouldn't kill all the dinosaurs. But no, they moved all the dinosaurs from site 2 to site 1. Where is this established?...

This is not a knock on videogames or "The Last of Us" (season 1 of which I liked). But if you "have to read the book / comics / play the game" to get your show, you have made a lousy show; and if you need TV to be a literal reproduction of a game/book/&c, you are advocating for making lousy shows

Not in the films! You have to go to the Jurassic World 2 website to get that bit of info... why? Honestly because they probably made the movie without thinking about it and retroactively fixed their mistake with a website data log... But I shouldn't have to do that to understand a movie.

#HorrorWritersChat He was an idiot. He thought ‘Equinox’ was skin cream for horses. I managed to convince him that ‘snap, crackle and pop’ was a form of capital punishment in mediaeval times. You could make him believe anything. Like ‘drinking bleach is good for you’. He was only 12, the poor lad.
