OK, I can vote online in a municipal election in Canada, but I have to upload photos of my government ID to what appears to be an American company who, in their terms, openly admit that they will pas on info to third parties which aren't outlined but have their own privacy guidelines? SERIOUSLY?

Between this letter, this website, and the whole "don't use an X to vote in person even though or logo shows an X".... I have a lot of questions here. I should be able to vote without months of research into every element. I understand security, but I wasn't expecting this.

Has the media looked into this. Like, at all? I feel like I should have heard about it, and the main page says that they handled an Ontario election in 2022. But I have never heard anything about this. This feels really big tbh. Especially now.

I'm several pages in and I'm still trying to figure out if they are American. They talk about the presidential election, and being in SXSW back in the day, so maybe?

I'm late to this, yes. I have a hand injury and stuff I've been dealing with and my plan was to vote today. I have surgery Tues morning, so going to vote Mon after work is going to be a lot. But it's that or hand my government ID to a company in an unknown location whose FAQ is basically "trust me".

There are multiple links to work your way through to figure out who Voatz is. I'm reasonably tech savvy and it wasn't til I got the email that I realised there was a 3rd party involved at all. The URLs in the mail that the City of Cambridge sent don't have Voatz in them, and there's no detail here.

Read through our municipal and regional candidates in preparation for voting, and wrote out a list. I then went through the Vote Compass site, answering all the questions. My list and their list lined up exactly. At least I feel more confident in my choices now. I will vote online tomorrow.

Dear @cambridge.ca , please have someone look at making your website mobile friendly. I'm trying to do research on the candidates for the upcoming election when I can and that means using my phone. Encourage research and participation by making it convenient on all devices. It is best for all of us.

Safety gear, especially for women. My first safety shoes were men's. There was no women's option. I was lucky I have big feet. Now there's a whole section for women.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Some experts say the cats have been fed. Speak to the cats themselves, however, and you'll hear a different story. One that may shock you. On our new, six part podcast, we ask the big question: In the war between experts and cats... ...just who can we truly believe?

Oh, he's the guy who was in that thing. You know, him. In all seriousness, yes I remember him. I am also saddened by his passing.

I have seen a few people post about inexpensive fountain pens they like, so I found a Hongdian for my collection. It's not bad, actually. It's not the best pen I own, but that isn't the point. It seems to be a solid carry around with me pen, with less fear of losing it. I can live with that.

Got a Jinhao fountain pen for no other reason than it was cheap enough to take to work and not worry at all about it getting lost. It's also not bad. Definitely cheaper quality than the Hongdian, but I knew it was plastic instead of metal. It writes well enough Now to ditch the office ballpoint.

Tuesday will be a sad day for Ontario. Ford's government is taking us backwards, spending millions taking away bike lanes in Toronto when people across Ontario desperately need money for hospitals, housing, schools and infrastructure.

Toronto Star@thestar.com

The Ford government is set to remove Etobicoke bike lanes next week. The government confirmed to the Star that work will begin Oct. 13 to remove bike lanes on a stretch of Bloor Street that has been at the heart of the city’s bike lane battle.

it is interesting that I can't find any mainstream media coverage of Altman's sister Annie going viral on social media over the weekend for uploading footage of the first hour of her deposition in her lawsuit against him (one of two) in which she is alleging years of CSA

Note, things are different in this municipal election. Make sure you know how to vote so your ballot counts and isn't considered spoiled.

I complained to the City that they enclosed my voting info in an envelope addressed to my tenant. As he's under no obligation to tell me, it's a great way to suppress votes and disengage voters. She said it's a cost savings. LOVELY. (She also tried to deflect and put onus on me...nope)

If you aren't finding and following historical institutions on social media, why aren't you?

For no better reason than it's Friday, we're going to review wrestlers on how useful they'd be working in the archive. First up: Triple H. He'd probably be great to have in the office, but that water spit thing is just going to raise our humidity levels so it's a no from us.

Neuroscientist here. I have studied the brain for 40 years. I make serious use of machine learning and AI in my research. Sam Altman is full of shit. These machines are not conscious, any more than a movie of a train coming out of the screen is a train. AI does remarkable things but isn’t real.

no we aren't. no it isn't. that isn't true

Are there any feeds or accounts for people who want to journal but aren't trying to make an artform out of it? If you do that is great, but I am looking to organise my life with no frills no fuss. Looking for some basic ideas to help.

When voting in the upcoming municipal election (or, after this, ANY election) double check how they want you to mark the ballot and don't assume it's an X. Because suddenly it isn't.

City of Cambridge@cambridge.ca

A few minutes now can help avoid mistakes later.   Watch this quick video to learn how to correctly mark your ballot, avoid common errors, and be ready to vote. Ballots that are marked incorrectly may not be counted, so it's important to know what to do before you vote.   Make your vote count. 🗳️

The only time I see WRPS anymore is guarding construction sites. There seems to be zero interest in them dealing with unsafe driving, even at the construction sites they are guarding. This post brought to you by a dangerous situation at road cinstructuin this morning in spite of a cop RIGHT THERE.

Burger flipping is HARD. I struggle to burger flip for the two people in my house every third Wednesday (roughly). Doing it hundreds of times in a day, every day, for months or years on end? The person flipping those burgers has earned the right to a decent wage.

Dilek Sayedahmed@dileksayedahmed.bsky.social

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

This is the part the "low taxers" get me all riled up about. Somebody has to pay. And if we're "subsidizing" public services by seeking private alternatives, it's more expensive for us in the long run. And more unpredictable.

So I was 5 minutes late to get the kid. Walk 15 minutes back to bus stop (because “taking the bus” in Ottawa involves a lot of walking). Missed the return bus by 30 seconds. Next bus: 30 minutes. Like I said, what I “save” in property taxes, I spend on taxis/Ubers.

In my friend group there was a lot of disappointment for not getting long form, and excitement for getting long form. There was no middle ground. I got a long form, and my partner of 30 years and I learned things about each other we didn't know.
