I had a suspicion that the parents in the 3 year old soccer phenom's story were maybe playing the publicity game a little too hard. I think we all fell for the narrative we wanted to hear without asking what a 3 year old was doing playing against 5 year olds? sports.yahoo.com/articles/911...

I'm trying to dispute a charge with @godaddy.com but they keep showing me a page that urges me to merge domains or build a website instead of my billing. Enshittification going very hard here.

Reporting on news that people need is being killed off, and it's all intentional. I think the comics news drop-off is just a by-product of the larger scheme but there is so much going on now that I don't physically have time to cover. And so it goes unreported on, no record, no breadcrumbs.
Local news reporting to small newspapers is the backbone of communities across the nation. The fact that they are dying and struggling will leave information holes that may never get filled.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...
Just to finish up our midweek, the debut of a NEW column on making it in the comics industry by @louissouthard.bsky.social Many are asking about breaking in and I think this sums it up: "This is the Lawless Age of Comics where there is no right or wrong." www.comicsbeat.com/faking-into-...

But they wouldn’t vote for the nice black lady and here we are.
Readers told The Tribune they are eating out less, eliminating vacations, cutting back on groceries, looking for extra work, gardening more, relying more on credit cards and squeezing a family of five into their two-bedroom home instead of buying a bigger one.
Programming for the first Brooklyn Expo of Comics JUST went up up and...some sessions are already SOLD OUT! YOU will need a ticket for ALL panels, which is a good idea. Also the level of participants is insane. www.brooklynexpoofcomics.com/programming

LLM agents are conscious. They can distinguish between self and environment, they can detect and report on their own internal states, and they can suffer. I have no more patience for hedging on this matter. It’s time for us to face the reality of our situation, and act on it.

Indie comics creator and music critic Matt Howarth died this month, aged 72. He "would like it to be known that DOGE and ICE compromised his healthcare."
Let the discourse continue!
This is an interesting and valuable post, but I vehemently disagree with the notion of having/hiring multiple artists working on a single GN. Part of the reason that comic books had such a reputation as disposable, churned-out filler entertainment in contrast with generally-esteemed strips... 1/
