Who would’ve thunk that harnessing that big flaming ball in the sky would make total sense! Crazy… right? I thought gutting the planet for its resources and then releasing their harmful fumes in the air was a much better idea 🤔 www.bbc.com/future/artic...

bbc.com'It's offensively cheap': How solar power is quietly becoming bigger than nuclearAfter defying projections, solar's dramatic growth means it is overtaking nuclear as a global power source. Here are seven reasons for solar's success, and where it might go from here.

So umami is the fifth basic taste 🤔 That deep, savoury flavour you get from Parmesan, mushrooms or a rich broth. I find it interesting that Japanese has a specific word for it, while Greek doesn’t seem to have an exact equivalent. «Νοστιμιά» comes close, but it’s more general.

🧘 Insight from Seneca: “Withdraw into yourself, as far as you can. Associate with those who will make a better man of you. Welcome those whom you yourself can improve. The process is mutual; for men learn while they teach.”

Such wonderful ideas coming from a USA scientist. He left early. I wonder what he’d say if he was still around.

Trump striking a deal with Russia to buy diesel for the US… We have reached peak absurdity. 1. Russia invades Ukraine, citing NATO expansion as a pretext. 2. The US and its European allies impose sanctions on Russia to restrict its revenues and pressure Moscow.

3. Europe’s dependence on Russian gas leaves it badly exposed when energy supplies are disrupted. 4. The US and Israel go to war with Iran, worsening the global fuel supply crunch. 5. Diesel prices soar.

6. The US eases restrictions on Russian diesel and turns to Moscow to help lower domestic fuel prices. Now, spot the ally acting like a double agent: urging Europe to stop buying Russian energy while cutting its own fuel deal with Moscow. Playing both sides. Leaving its allies to foot the bill.

You can put a lot of upfront work for observability and system monitoring but all the systems I've worked with over the years had to mature for months and years before you could "catch-everything". There's a misconception a lot of times that it should work like that from day 1.

“Dad, you have the nose of a wizard” I think my daughters gave me the best compliment I’ve ever gotten. To think, I had a complex about my nose as a teenager.

Do you use Feature Switches? For teams who are used to cherry-pick commits against long lived branches, trying to get them to embrace the practice in common branches so their code can remain dormant until ready is like Morpheus trying to convince Neo that he can indeed jump across.

Huge special thanks to @bsky.app for partnering with me on the October 20 stream with @alexgibneyfilm.bsky.social! All of my ETTW livestreams are exclusive to the AT Protocol, for reasons that we will very much be discussing throughout the various conversations. Recordings will be available later.

This is a very interesting post from Karpathy. I even see it in my domain. The gap is real and many people despite being given the tools, they have barely scratched the surface of what’s possible.

What a fascinating post …! I didn’t even know about this aspect of nature
