6 to 8 new amateur radio tools per day are requesting a Club Log API key. That's compared to one a month in 2025. Who is installing these ~1500 vibe coded tools? Some are for just one person but many seem to be logging tools written by Claude, and they can't all be "special". Seems a bit much? 😐

I sure am tired of wading through vibe coded web sites and products. I get how strong the urge to build things is, but the lack of effort spent on the web copy is just a massive turn off for me. I want to hear from the person behind the ideas.

If one more person forks NINA (the one true astrophotography OSS tool) and makes their own 'better' version I'll cry. I think it would make more sense to give up the equivalent time to help to the maintainers, or give *them* your $200/mo instead of Anthropic.

Made a simplified version of the "Clear Outside" app as I was finding it small and a bit fussy. Mine's called Clearer Outside πŸ˜ŠπŸ” Not in the app store as it's a *lot* of hassle adding apps, but maybe in the end I'll succumb

The Triangulum galaxy last night. I'll follow up with a hydrogen imaging night which will add a lot of interest, but it's pretty in broadband! πŸ”

M45, The Pleiades (the seven sisters). Exceptionally bright in the night sky, a tricky one to stack but worth the effort. This HDR solution uses 2s, 4s, 8s, 16s and 60s exposures to try and let the beautiful gases reveal themselves. ~6h total exposure time.

A clear night gave me the chance to finish the Heart Nebula project. Last night I got the extra data needed for the Hubble palette. The blue region is oxygen, red is hydrogen, and the green is sulphur.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!! 6+ months of work by SO many people is converging on a fantastic thing for researchers online. We want to democratize access to research infrastructure online, for good, and we've put together an amazing team to make it happen. ❀️

Aster ID@aster.id

The modern research ecosystem of online tools and communities is controlled by for-profit companies. But we think that researchers should be the priority - not the product. So, we're announcing Aster ID: not-for-profit Atmosphere account hosting for researchers.

The Heart Nebula - IC 1805 - last night. This is currently using the 'Foraxx' palette - when I have the extra data I'll make a Hubble palette version. Picked this as it's currently on a perfect overhead path - the best! Slightly amazed how bright and big the nebula is.

Conditions last night were just about perfect, so I put the telescope out to capture Andromeda in narrowband. You can really see the hydrogen regions (red) where stars are forming. ✨

Today's project is to service this clock (1840 fusee) which stopped this morning, after a good 5 years without attention. Probably needs dismantling and cleaning! πŸ€“

Most interesting. The root cause was the minute wheel (centre wheel) having worn to a ridge on its arbour, which was grabbing the rear plate pivot. Machined it to round, fitted a new bushing, and all is well again!

Sending Club Log v2.0.1 to the app stores. Redesigned the DX Dash page; new DX Calendar page; added ADIF download to the Log Book; master on/off switch for alerts. + a substantial UI quality and polish pass, performance upgrades, reduced mobile bandwidth and further bug fixes. Android UI love++

Andromeda, our nearest neighbour last night. M31 is so vast I can only just fit it into a frame on my scope (with a reducer!) It's six times bigger than the moon by width - if we could only see it by eye. We see a smudge on dark nights. Also M32 (above) and M110 (below). @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Latest Club Log mobile app build submitted - this includes the ability to upload ADIF files as well as a lot of quality and UX updates. Out shortly, app stores permitting! v1.9.8 is the one you want if you look in the 'About' menu of your current app.

v1.9: Adds the missing Expedition Charts and DX Report tools from Club Log, plus some improvements to Log Search (in the Check tool). Should be available in your app store in under 24h. Thanks for the feedback! Slowing releases to once a week now the big surge is done.

v 1.8: Swipe to dismiss Live Bands/Alerts + skip alerts if you're in the DX log. Quiet hours in local TZ. Band chart clicks ignores neighbouring freqs. Network gaps show as "Reconnecting", not error. 8-char grids supported. 70cm band off for new users. Live Bands says "Wkd by" entity for QSOs

Club Log app update on the way... Live Alerts:
Added Live Alerts options for band slots and mode slots. Live Alerts are also now consolidated into fewer alerts where possible. Live Bands: Made it possible to select individual bands and modes on the Live Bands tool, reorganised the 'filters' menu.
