Algebra, numbers, principles of optics, medical encyclopedias, astronomy, hospitals, surgical tools, universities, coffee, lab chemistry--all of Arabic origin. This mfer had a brain worm, collects road kills, sounds like a dial up modem, works out in jeans. This is a uniquely American arrogance.

A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan. He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...

I’d call this an October surprise, but is anyone actually surprised?

please please vote before election day, and tell your circles to. Republican mayors and governors are watching this unfold and getting ideas.
Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
Thank you Olympia! For the record, I believe he and the restaurant he was going to use were just pulling out because the optics were bad for them. I’ve been to a protest in Olympia, they’re pretty tame #olympiaWA www.yelmonline.com/stories/lets...

This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of riders—and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

It is more them than you, but the growing global middle class (especially in rich countries) that continues to enjoy unfettered consumption and hyper-mobility - in a Faustian pact with these companies for their own amusement - are also responsible and don't get off the hook this easily.

Meta gave $1M to Trump's inauguration fund — and Mark Zuckerberg himsef has helped bankroll Trump's ballroom. Now Trump's DOJ has halted a years-long criminal investigation into allegedly enabling and profiting from illegal drug sales on its platforms. Funny how that works, huh?

Sad to see this piece today. I first went to Svalbard almost nine years ago and reported for WaPo on the speed of climate change there, and how many aspects of daily life were already changing in profound ways due to it. And now, here's another.
