Dad, husband, nerd, photographer, Wikimedian, WordPress...er? I care about people over tech and how the latter impacts the former. I work at the Wikimedia Foundation. Stupid things I say are my own and do not reflect the views of the Foundation.

NEW: Epic Games has delayed its upcoming (not yet announced) Star Wars + Marvel shooter as it pivots to complete AI game development. "No more hand-written code," a director told staff. All art "generated with full AI workflows." Full scoop: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

bloomberg.comEpic Games Delays Disney Project, Asks Developers to Use More AIThe company told the team behind the upcoming shooter that it will now be an ‘AI first’ production

What happens once all the code is written for you? What happens in 10 years when new devs come along and old folks retire? It's not just institutional knowledge disappearing, but all deep knowledge of programming.

Every now and then I see myself referred to as an "AI Denier" and I want to be clear I acknowledge "AI" exists, it's just I think it's a massive energy drain, created from theft, implemented poorly for inappropriate tasks by loathsome tech executives who get hard at the idea of the rest of us dying

Online enthusiast perception of certain games tends to not correlate strongly to sales potential or performance. It's just part of that huge gap where the 15-20% or so of the gaming audience that is the most engaged and invested is massively overrepresented in online conversation. Is what it is.

My day job lets me publish great stories about how humans are creating and documenting their cultural heritage. Not to just preserve but to celebrate, share, and educate others. I love photo contests and the latest Wiki Loves Bangla is no exception. diff.wikimedia.org/2026/09/09/c...

Earlier this year, we set up a special room in our office where people could sneak preview Big Walk with their friends. Almost 1,000 people came by. We wanted the experience to be special. In my last video, I showed you the room's intro. Now, here's the big finale. It was pure joy — like Big Walk.

My two daughters, wife, and I played Big Walk together tonight. We found the Kongs and the first key. It was fun and unique. Our house is small so we each had to go to separate rooms so we didn’t hear each other. 🤣

"The ability to parse sources independently and garner a version of the truth from them is extremely important in this day and age. But Google's AI mode now does this for you, leading to the erosion of this skill. ..."

"... I fear that the use of AI in this way will eventually make the populace even more readily accepting of whatever information is thrown at them by politicians and chatbots alike, therefore contributing to the weakening of informed democracy."

"As publishers lose traffic and shutter, the information that Ai bots scan for will shrink and lower in quality over time. It’s the fundamental unsustainable fact of AI that is ignored by evangelists: AI outcompetes and undermines the human output that it is entirely reliant on for its function."

"Google should be free to compete in AI, but with a separate wall between search results and Gemini. Forcing their product on every Internet user while robbing publishers of referral traffic is not a fair market. If you’re wondering why everything on the Internet seems worse today, thank Google."

Spending my morning writing a statement for press inquiries about all this when all I want to do is say "consumers haven't had purchasing power in about ten years now because we gave all of our money to like ten weird guys, what did you all expect"

I use BHL a lot in my Wikimedia work; and I've been happy to make some small contributions as a member of the BHL-Wikimedia working group. This is a great write-up of a wonderful project.

BHL is featured in @theguardian.com's Age of Extinction series. The article highlights the extraordinary value of BHL and the urgent need to ensure it remains free and open into the future. Please read and share: www.theguardian.com/environment/... 🧪 🌎 📖 🔗 🐟 💚
