It's been 10 months since we lost my little sister unexpectedly. Loss has been seemingly omnipresent the last few years. I wrote about this as part of my process & in hopes it helps us all take steps to more collective healing. #MedSky #BlackSky #PedSky

chomilomd.comHealing through Grief & the Normalization of Structural Violence (Another Long COVID)My little sister's unexpected death won't officially be counted as related to the COVID pandemic, but it should. A little over a year ago I returned to my high school to be inducted into the inaugural Eden Prairie Schools Hall of Fame 🙌🏾 I shared what that recognition meant: an acknowledgement of the hard work that I & my parents have & continue to put in - of a country that welcomed my father & his family.

It is my belief that for us to continue to experience the greatness we are capable of, we need to remember our common threads, to see everyone in our communities as worthy of love & respect & not accept leaders who only offer us enemies & stories about our neighbors that dehumanize them.

The events in our world, our country, our state, & in Eden Prairie over the last year make that belief more relevant, & more urgent, than ever before. Make sure you select leaders with a vision for how we can soar together & reject those who claim we must be afraid of each other's existence. 🙏🏾✊🏾

We came "this" close to a 5 yo kid getting shot by ICE Who wants to bet if that happened they'd say the adult was using them as a "shield"? What will it take for folks to understand how our silence when Palestinian or Black lives are dehumanized makes us ALL less safe Especially our kids. #PedSky

After 30+ years working in America, Ester gave up a third of her life savings to self-deport to Mexico — terrified of being incarcerated by ICE. She's now separated from her daughter. Her story is the focus of Episode 2 of Fractured, a docuseries on the human toll of ICE enforcement.

BREAKING: After the Washington Post fired me last year for speaking the truth in the wake of the Charlie Kirk killing, I fought back. And I'm happy to announce: I won my case against the Washington Post. They have been ordered to reinstate me immediately. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/24/b...

Yesterday ICE agents shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a father, husband, and beloved neighbor who spent 35 years building a life in the U.S. Our hearts are heavy with grief for his family and all those suffering at the hands of ICE, CBP, and this administration's unrelenting cruelty.

Rev. Ed King lived the kind of life that reminds us doing the right thing isn't always easy, but it's always worth it. He stood with Mississippians fighting for justice when it would've been easier to stay quiet. Our state is better because he never backed down in the face of hatred and bigotry.

Health equity demands that we center the marginalized & refuse to stay silent in the face of injustice we have the power to prevent✊🏾 We can't heal if we ignore the wound @ameracadpeds.bsky.social senior leadership continues to ignore this wound As a result we will ALL continue to suffer #PedSky

They are looking for a new chair after they removed me for repeatedly advocating for them to break their silence about the genocide in Gaza & continually pointed out how they were fostering a culture of censorship. You can read more about that here in my piece on @thenation.com #PedSky #MedSky

It's late as shit but I'm here at Minnesota's DFL convention where Amy Klobuchar is suddenly scrambling because someone is challenging her for DFL's endorsement for governor, and there are lots of procedural steps happening now before delegates cast their votes. Bit of a shit show!

These reports aim to: 🔵 provide information & context to decision makers, 🔵 lay a baseline for our measurement of impact over time & 🔵 help us identify communities that will need focused support during implementation to mitigate the harms these cuts to Medicaid will bring. #MedSky

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒The Human Cost: While on its face the law appears neutral in its intent its impact won't be. This will worsen #Medicaid barriers that: * Force the poorest families to choose between essential care and financial ruin. #MedSky

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒The Human Cost: While on its face the law appears neutral in its intent its impact won't be. This will worsen #Medicaid barriers that: * In MN, shift an estimated $37 million annually in uncompensated care onto enrollees & safety-net providers #MedSky

‼️Why this matters: In MN, current protections cost <1% of #Medicaid spending but prevented $129M in unpaid bills in 2024. These cuts will hit safety-net hospitals & clinics hardest—especially in rural areas. Service reductions & facility closures could follow, impacting entire communities. #MedSky

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒The Human Cost: While on its face the law appears neutral in its intent its impact won't be. This will worsen #Medicaid barriers that: * Disproportionately burden Black, Indigenous, & rural communities already facing systemic healthcare disparities. #MedSky #BlackSky

❓What's changing: Since 1972, #Medicaid’s retroactive coverage provisions have protected enrollees from medical bills incurred up to 3 months before coverage began. This helps prevent life-altering debt for low-income people & ensures health care professionals get paid for the care they provide.

P.L. 119-21 (aka OBBA) shortens retroactive #Medicaid coverage from: * 3 months → 1 month for low-income/ "expansion" adults (21-64, no dependents/disabilities) * 3 months → 2 months for children, parents, pregnant people, seniors, & people with disabilities #MedSky
