I’ve been doing a ton of ankle based kick drum work and it is starting to really pay off. #drumming

Also did some LRLRLLLL double bass work. I’d like to get to RLRLRRRRLRLRLLLL but I was lacking too much on the left.

My wife took older kiddo to a birthday party two hours away and I hung out with baby. Naturally, I watched horror movies. I just put baby in the crib and on the monitor is a balloon floating by their head. Scared me.

Drum practice is kicking my butt right now. Speeding up 1/8ths, 1/12ths, and 1/16ths on my kick 12 bpm at a time. Bass control.

Did some metronome practice as low as 20 bpm today. I feel like my time is getting better which is really nice.

X = <<16#01>>, % 8 bit 1 Y = <<16#00, 16#01>>, % 16 bit 1 A = <<1>>, % 8 bit 1 B = <<1:16>>, % 16 bit 1 Must internalize...

If you are familiar with Graphula, this is conceptually very similar. It just decouple you from Persistent and Arbitrary. In fact, you can basically write Graphula using wall (see wall-graphula/ in the repository).

I would call this alpha ready, but I have some folks at work interested in using it. Hopefully I can iterate a bit at work. LLM assisted, but I've reviewed every line of code.

The capabilities are registered with the bricks separately and so you could write to a database, an IORef, or a JSON file. You don't lock yourself into any of these choices.

The bricks can also be sequenced **outside** of Haskell code. You could ask an LLM to discover the available bricks and build layouts which can be linted and run.

It's weird to me that all these tech execs are like, "Coding? Yeah, that is a solved problem". Have you seen the code being produced?

I got this funk patterns book awhile back and it is breaking my brain. Kicks on 4, no backbeats at all. Super fun.

I’m losing interest in extracurricular programming. Less computer, more family and music.

I find using a metronome to meditate works well for me. I was counting previously, but this also helps my drumming.

I have lots of drum plans for the next week. Lots of triplet shuffle stuff and three consecutive 1/16th kicks. Much fun will be had!

The amount of “holding it wrong” I do on the drums is absurd. In today’s episode, my throne was not tightened well enough.

I’m doing a lot of slow practice in the kit right now. 40 bpm 1/8 note click, 1(+)a2… kick/hat or 1(ea)2… kick/ghost. Each for like 10 minutes. It’s such good practice. One day I’ll get to 1/4 click.

Moved into double bass pedal beats with three consecutive hits. It’s a blast having four limb coordination while counting!

Today, same exercises but only right foot! Much more figuring out when to wind up and use rebound to maintain momentum.

Just spent 10 minutes playing 1(+)a repeated, only feet, at 40 bpm. Metronome was set to 80 because I need the fence posts but we’ll get there! I’ve been wanting to do more time work.

Also practicing 1+(2a)3(e)+a(4) with 1/8 note pulse. I need to make the +a more efficient to get over 100 bpm.

Unfortunately a job offer I had fell through due to head count elimination so I am currently on the market for a new job! If you need someone with 11+ years of Rust, backend, and distributed systems experience I am your guy. Contact Email: michael@ductile.systems. Boosting appreciated!

Looking for some help, spaghetti and meatballs is a great dish because there is a lot of well timed space in between for cleaning up and doing chores. I need more dishes like this. Hit me with some suggestions please

I kind of want to start a comic that is just a young kid talking to a time traveler. Idea, Kid: excuse me, I have to charge my watch Time traveler: you don’t just wind it? Kid: what the fuck are you talking about? Is this something?

Curious, I’d love to “hand-craft” more code but I’m very time limited outside of work. I split work into “things I want to exist” and “things I want to do”. I bet you can guess which ones I use LLMs for. How do you manage your outside of work coding time?

At first I thought these were those locks which you put keys into. Then, I imagined all of them having the same combo but there’s only one key.

As a non-tenure stream faculty I made less than a junior engineer. The only possibility of getting a raise was going into administration.

I guess I'm doing PhD discourse: I left academia because I realized that *IF* I was extremely lucky, it would mean: Moving to a random town. Being stuck there for the rest of my life. Being paid like a junior engineer. I loved my field, but enough to drag my family to Stillwater Oklahoma? No.

I’ve vaguely posted about this recently but my second kiddo came into this world complicated. They had a pretty massive stroke localized to the left hemisphere of their brain. They are making a ton of progress and Boston is one of the best places in the world for this injury.
