I mean it wasn't exactly posh but it wasn't like this when I was a kid, very sad to see. More power to the Future Yard initiative.

Extremely funny to go "I can't believe the Poles didn't insitute reforms that would have upset Moscow" with a header image of What Happens When You Upset Moscow

Jacobin@jacobinmag.bsky.social

In October 1956, a protest movement in Poland brought a reform-minded communist leadership to power. Unlike Hungary, Poland managed to avoid Soviet intervention, but the opportunity to democratize its political and economic structures was missed.

Top states to watch for Republican lame-duck gerrymanders: Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida. NC’s GOP already adopted a resolution to enable passing new lame-duck power grabs and gerrymanders But if Dems break the Texas GOP trifecta, they could block lame duck power grabs by denying a quorum

the Green's dropped their oposition to Nuclear Power, a few years ago that would be big news

Copenhagen nerds - I'm gonna be in your city next year - does anyone want to hear me give a paper? I got a little number using Marina Vishmidt's notion of 'infrastructure' alongside Samuel Delany's writing and his infrastructures of waste and desire. interested?

This is what left the visible physical world at about 3pm yesterday. The two concrete spiral staircases were my favourite bit. Going to do a run of C-Type prints of this if anyone is interested. Not my best in terms of quality, but it’s does that thing it needs to do.

The reason it’s not up to my usual standard are several. It was midnight, I was trespassing, I had been in the pub for ‘a while’ beforehand. I was out of puff because I am portly and I had to climb over barriers. Shortly afterwards security told me to go away, which was funny.

UK offering Freedom of Movement would be the game changer for conversations with the EU, one of the trio of people, pounds and positivity I identified earlier this year as crucial to any significant move to removing barriers.

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Prime Minister Andy Burnham says he wants a more 'honest conversation' about freedom of movement, suggesting it could work better than post-Brexit immigration has. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Wondering how much people would hate me for a column about the terrible woes of Gen X homeowners who aspire to Boomer levels of housing but can't quite afford the handymen. Probably quite a lot?

@rhymerrigby.bsky.social the biggest crime for the lewi dev cancelation is that you are denied the opportunity for some grainy B&W pics of Shoezone getting chomped by the big chomping machine

A few more from the demolition of Anglia Square from the day before yesterday. Two wings left now. It’s a very strange and quite a sad sight for anyone who lives in this area and even vaguely understands the community.

I've written to the Mayor of Lewisham after Landsec deprioritised the Lewisham Shopping Centre redevelopment. The scheme wasn't perfect, but losing a once-in-a-generation £1.5bn investment in our town centre raises serious questions. We need to know what happens now.
