the irony in this whole thing is off the chart. Mbappé made the remark (saying his favourite meme about himself is the one making him look like a Chinese dictator) in April. it was pretty unserious. no one paid any attention. then fast forward to October, a Chinese influencer discovered the

interview and for whatever reason made news out of it. Brands and state media joined in. The Streisand effect: the more you try to hide, remove, or censor information, the more attention it gets. Somewhere on the Chinese internet people will be

What's hilarious about the Mbappé affair in Chinese media is it's universally condemned, featured in 3 out of Weibo's top 11 trending topics, but nowhere can you find out what he said. all that's allowed to say is "inappropriate comments", "hurt Chinese feelings".

I always say imagine how much more time people would have if they didn't have to use all their creativity to come up with all these code words "he said Tang Guoqiang was an arts student". one smart commentator says. Tang Guoqiang is an actor who often plays Mao in films.

gking.harvard.edu/files/peerle... As a journal editor I've always found (apparently) AI-generated reviews absolutely useless. The conclusion seems shocking at first but not so surprising when you have read the research design. They solicited AI and human-written reviews,

and then asked AI to rank the reviews (.....). They also recruited 3 human editors to rank 10 reviews. Crucially the editors were not asked to read the papers, only rate the reviews. I can't imagine how reviews on papers can be rated on its own without actually looking at the paper.

She posted about one short video every other day recording her life. social media might have been a rare source of joy and connection; however it turned out to be destructive when things go wrong. Platform violence is particularly brutal in small towns where "everyone knows everyone". The neg review

happily caught this interview on the school run this morning. at some point the interviewer says: you spent lots of time criticizing the west, but some would say you are part of the ecosystem... you have access to those institutions. Roy: "what is the west?" www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

the politicization of AC use seems unnecessary. He disagreed and said it's a *political* issue that must be debated. I know him as someone vocal, creative, and morally committed. He's been arrested in Guangzhou for a month now. His friends say he's been interrogated for long hours

#wordsmatter was listening to this interview with a grassroots group called 一个母亲, which supports mothers who raise young children alone. they deliberately avoid using 单亲妈妈 (single mother) and coined 独抚妈妈 (mothers who raise children alone) instead, as the latter is more inclusive www.stovol.com/177
