Excellent reporting by @cerisecastle.bsky.social here. Reminded of how in 2011 Egyptian police explicitly targeted protesters' eyes during the revolution, blinding or partially blinding dozens.

These weapons maim & shouldn't be on our streets. They cause avoidable/grave human harm & lead to lawsuits that impoverish us: "[LAPD] officers fired at least 2,587 such rounds at protesters between June 6, 2025, and March 28, 2026, according to use-of-force reports published by the department."

Please don't overreact to the SCOTUS SAVE database decision today Page 6 of the decision makes clear that we are in the 90 day statutory window when mass changes cannot be made to voter lists! Yeah it's a shit decision for the reasons the 3 dissenters say but we can deal with it. More to come...

After hours of discussion, the motion has been split and continued for 30 days. Sup. Hahn had questions about how meet and confer would play into the motion (spoiler: it doesn’t as the motion doesn’t include policy change). See you back here in 1 month for an update.

Supervisor Holly Mitchell commented on the group of LASD in uniform during her remarks on the motion: "I sincerely hope it was not intended as an intimidation factor, it can be interpreted as such.” Luna responded: “It’s sad to think anybody thinks they’re here to intimidate."

Think about all the work regular & impacted folks have to do just to build bare bones transparency & accountability into our local criminal systems. We shouldn’t need a motion to get the Sheriff & Co. to do the bare minimum to root out deputy gangs. They should already be doing it!

Currently the LA Sheriff’s deparment is refusing to name or even ask the names of deputy gangs inside the dept while investigating them. Today’s motion would be a step for transparency around the issue that has plagued the department for decades.

LA County is a perfect example of the role govt. attorneys play in frustrating accountability& transparency efforts. The Sheriff’s Dept. has bred a vicious constellation of deputy gangs that have murdered + hurt residents in jails and on the street. Everybody knows they exist.

I would be reporting more but @groundgamela.bsky.social’s retaliatory lawsuit against me and other journalists continues to force me into prioritizing other work so I can pay an attorney to defend their frivolous lawsuit. Don’t believe any of them when/if they ever say they support a free press.

And that goes for the politicians who also lock arms with GGLA. Some of them spoke out when the LA city attorney sued me but when the call came from inside the house— crickets!

Sgt. Karla Carranza is running for Sheriff to fulfill a lifelong dream. She promises to continue the department’s current approach to deputy gangs and give the public a “stern” approach to crime.

To be clear: I have ZERO affiliation w/ Knock LA & its political endorsements, particularly of LA County Sheriff. Knock LA is a political blog of Ground Game LA. They are illegally displaying my reporting on their website. This falsely boosts their credibility & relevance.

Ground Game LA is violating the copyright I hold & in spite of several takedown notices. I am currently suing them in federal court for this. Journalists do NOT endorse candidates. I will say this though: stay away from dishonest voter guides.

We've become numb to this stuff, but a president accusing a journalist of treason -- a capital crime -- for reporting on an ongoing war is not normal, and we should never accept it as normal.
