I think that means it should be the _opposite_. Any attempt to stop the swing is not a swing. accidental weak contact, half-swings, etc are almost never going to be in the hitter's favor. Fouling off strike three? Big deal, plus pitchers get strikes on non-swing fouls, so that seems fair.

Cliff Corcoran@cliffcorcoran.bsky.social

I continue to believe that if the bat crosses over the plate *at all* (that is, enters the strike zone) it should be considered a swing, because, at that point, contact could result in fouling off a strike or hitting the ball fair. I share this a lot, but it's all in here:

I know we're all dunking on this because it's extreme loser NPC behavior, but can we point out that it's also an ad?

cool, cool

why are we doing a lockout countdown in the middle of the World Series?

Passanthallich@passanthalbot.bsky.social

EvanDrellich tweeted The lockout is 40 days away. When it comes to a salary cap, everyone at the World Series — commissioner, players, owner, union leader — is saying, well, exactly what you'd expect. Trevor Megill: "No cap, no floor, it’s not happening.” Rob Manfred: "It’s easy to say, ‘I’m

I think the Mets might just draw straws for coaches every year at this point.

Mets announce that director of hitting Jeff Albert, quality assurance coach Danny Barnes and batting practice pitcher Kevin Mahoney will not return to the major-league staff next year. They could still return to the organization, but they are free to discuss jobs elsewhere.

I have nothing against Freddy. the Mets staff who screwed him up on the other hand ....

I’m sure Mets fans are almost as excited to see Freddy Peralta pitching like an ace as Yankees fans are

Also when the job is "Who are we? Applied AI for liquidity." and they make me click 'I am not a robot'. Wouldn't you want a robot? feels like you're limiting the talent pool. Plus robots don't drink iced coffee, which is the clearest sign someone can't do the job.

only way he can justify keeping Marcus Semien on the team next year. Which is a mistake, but easier to change a slogan than a broken evaluation process.

David Stearns says he’s retiring the phrase “run prevention.” RIP run prevention jokes!

wish someone would ask Stearns about Alonso's career year, was that not in the spreadsheet? or was 2026 never a serious year for the Mets so it didn't matter?

What a pathetic Mets season. There's stuff to dream on for next year at least, though hard to have much faith in this leadership group. Can't lose a game for months at least!

No, they just hate you. And the product sucks? no one really complained about cameras in glasses before, the product has just failed over and over again but oh, just needs a reskin right?

it's wild they still let "reporters" ask questions.

@SNY_Mets tweeted Brandon Nimmo was asked why the Mets have been inconsistent with the exception of the second half of 2024: "If you can find the answer to that, you'd be the president of baseball ops. There is so much talent over there" https://t.co/wopRhqhHJl

Citi Field has only two more years.

Worth noting that there's a rule of diminishing returns when it comes to corporate stadium names. Sure, Comerica Park was also a corporate name, but it was the only name that ballpark ever had, so at least it was closely identified with Tigers baseball for more than 25 years.

AnthonyDiComo tweeted Steve Cohen said on SNY that the Mets plan "to add certain voices into the front office that I think will be helpful." Doesn't have to be a GM under David Stearns, but it could be. Cohen said he wants the hires "to help the team out as far as getting different points of

Oktoberfest kicks off in Munich today, and reminded me that still hadn't looked up the 2026 poster design! Instant favorite. For me it evokes the dazzling, sense-inflaming, nighttime carnival glow of the event. A vibe not broached since 2005 (yes I checked, shut up). Artist: Florian Huber

fyi, my grandmother's journal says it was "very very hot" in NYC on this date in 1942. (according to the weather history sites, it was 90 for the third day in a row)

physical media sucks. If you have a stack of aging DVD/home video type stuff you've been "meaning to digitize", get to it before it gets harder and harder.

I was at the August 9th 2006 game when Mike Piazza got a curtain call with the Padres, hitting two home runs at Shea Stadium (And nearly tied the game with a third). Different situation of course, the Mets were good, won the game anyway, and had a 13.5 lead in the division.

@AnthonyDiComo tweeted While effusive in their own love for Pete Alonso, some Mets were surprised by how fans seemed to root against the team at points tonight. "I've just never seen anything like that before," Sean Manaea said, a night after Lindor said he wished fans had supported Jonah Tong

The Irish musicians, Beoga, who play alongside Ed Sheeran, have withdrawn from Sheeran’s tour. This is the statement they published on Instagram:

A sci-fi book coming to life and "AI" threatening humanity is so far below "Republicans" on the list of things that could mess life up and the people talking about it are doing it for PR and clicks. And shifting blame.

giggling over here. some people can't even handle the slightest challenge to their worldview. I'm sure it's nice to be that sure of yourself sometimes but it's still kinda wild.
