"But the handicapped need cars!" No, what they need are options in mobility. The tech exists to enable their freedom of independent mobility, but almost always what is lacking is the enabling infrastructure. Bike lanes and quality sidewalks serve everyone.

To be continued in a bit but while I am here let me invite Pierce and King county folks to JOIN ME this Thursday, Oct. 1, for a transit trek trip audit as part of the #WeekWithoutDriving. Gorgeous hike w/ a big dash of advocacy. Lots of details here transittrekker.com/2026/08/03/w...

We are heartbroken by the passing of our friend, mentor & colleague KL Shannon. KL was a community powerhouse who dedicated her life to justice, nurturing young organizers & building power in Seattle. Her work was motivated by love. We’ll carry it forward. Rest in power, KL. ❤️

You cannot acknowledge disabled people's reliance on the 7 while cutting bus stops and better serve the community. Full stop. Walking 1 or 2 blocks more to use a half ramp at a "level bording" will never make my commute faster or easier. southseattleemerald.org/news/2026/09...

southseattleemerald.orgMetro Plans to Replace the 7 Bus Line in 2032. Riders Already Have Concerns. The change from the 7 Line, the county's second-most-used route, to the RapidRide R Line could mean the new route would go from 67 stops to 45.

Bus consolidation so efficient it skips entire neighborhoods.

Bus stop consolidation will never make my commute better. It takes so much energy to push a wheelchair. Compound that with rain, broken sidewalks and a hill and a few extra can be impossible.

Rachael@r343l.bsky.social

"In 2020, Metro estimated the Rapid Ride R could save 7-12 minutes of travel time compared to the 7." Stop consolidation only has to add ~1300 feet to your bus walk (3 ft/sec) is possibly 7 minutes extra lopped off the travel time improvement which is presumably for a long trip.

Roosevelt and Symphony stations are vital hill climb assists if you have a physical disability and need to avoid a hill. I used Roosevelt Station to getup to 67th st regularly when I lived in the neighborhood. And hill climb access was one of our arguments at DRW for opening the Benaroya elevator.

Who's getting ready to run in D4 next year?

You'll be surprised to learn that CM Rivera supports Bob Kettle's amendment, and wants it to be clear that supporting it doesn't mean she doesn't support transit. "We should not be judged sometimes by the decisions we have to grapple and struggle with."

The project on the left is completely through environmental review and is approved to move into construction and the project on the right needs more environmental analysis, everything is working great.

Not covered in report: the idea of not spending the majority of the state transportation budget on highway capacity expansion.

My friend and her boyfriend were killed by a drunk driver while biking last week. I was paralyzed by a teenage driver. A family friend got a tbi in 2024 from a car hitting him while cycling. When will we stop building our communities around car violence?

I dont want to dismiss the violence people have experienced on transit, but I am triggered every time I hear safety used as an excuse to defund or reallocate money away from transit. Transit is 10 to 50x safer than driving. Why don't the lives of car victims matter enough to change our default?

Katie Wilson: "While I strongly support additional investment in Renton, and very much understand the motivations behind this amendment, I also strongly share the sentiment that we are Sound Transit, not Sound Parking."

Lol, finally got around to reading the @seattletimes.com NIMBY editorial, and they lift up "the waterfront" as an example of good process. Which part of the waterfront project? The part where car traffic flow was dictated from on high, and set how much leftover space could be given to people? 1/x

Graham Street infill light rail station in the Rainier Valley is getting big applause. Several panelists brought up its importance, including Mayor Wilson just now.

Such an important op-ed: "In a situation already fraught with power imbalance, this program operated outside the bounds of the legal system to severely restrict the civil liberties of hundreds of individuals without recourse." www.seattletimes.com/opinion/wa-i...

seattletimes.comWA is failing to recognize people with disabilities' full humanity | Op-EdIf we want to recognize the full personhood of people with disabilities, we must not let the services that they rely on be vulnerable to cuts.

As someone who has worked on WCAG (the new ADA rule) this is infuriating. There are 0 guidelines suggesting governments remove active resources just because they can't figure out how to make them accessible.

Lastly while governments scramble to comply with WCAG, there is a precedence that governments will not be penalized if they have an active plan in place to address inaccessible content and have an accommodation process when things are not accessible

It is wild when you look around and realize how limited housing options are for people in wheelchairs. Thanks to @ceceliablack.bsky.social for sharing her advocacy and insight!

Excellent op-ed from @ceceliablack.bsky.social about how reforming the elevator code can get more elevators built in more apartment buildings, a huge boost to people with disabilities

So excited to gear up for #WeekWithoutDriving with a King County Council proclamation!

Claudia Balducci@kccclaudia.bsky.social

🚶🚲🚌🦼 Over 30% of King County residents don’t drive—and yet most of our transportation system is built for those who do. That’s why the King County Council has proclaimed Sept. 30-Oct 5 the Week Without Driving—to better understand and address these challenges. #WeekWithoutDriving
