Very sad and very true. “For all the angst about sexual abuse, even of minors, the forever Trumpers honestly don’t care as long as their candidates win and maintain power. Just ask Jeffrey Epstein’s victims.”

This, like so many laments about what things cost in America, is a housing story. Public schools that provide a residential undergraduate education are also selling undergraduates an education in what it means to afford a residence. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/b...

My worry is that most of the machinery is still in place - the consolidated wealth able to fund vast networks of media and ideological institutions - to continue the push. Do we need to take drastic measures to prevent illiberal capture by wealth?

Candidates having the same or similar names isn't that unusual. It happens. Some states have codified rules about how to disambiguate. Alaska didn't, but got there by state court + administrative. Even when one is a spoiler and it apparently works, no election has ever been overturned on that basis.

A key issue, however, is that local registrars can’t actually carry out these investigations easily; they don’t have access to any special database that has a correct answer to these questions, so as they have argued in court, they can’t do this in the general course of their operations.

I think that each CA county should comply and vet the list the DOJ has sent. A lawsuit will take too long; if they comply and go down the labor intensive road to vet the list, they will beat the DOJ at their own game. Some illegal voters will be found, but the number will be insignificant.

Every single thing we learn about how Ramaswamy and his campaign have been operating over these past weeks in the decision to attack Acton in this way show in ever more abhorrent ways that they are morally incapable of the task of governing.

I’d like to echo Scott Aaronson’s latest posting: If you’re in the US, get out and vote against Fascism. We have a two party system, so your choice is voting for a party that has unified in support of the personality cult of a mad wannabe king/Fascist dictator, or the other one. Act accordingly.

Cash doesn't hit like it use to when you've tanked the economy and raised gas prices to the highest point ever. (See Wisconsin supreme court election). If Max Miller wins this election it'll be because voter suppression and outright stealing the ballots.

The republican ads in Iowa right now are off the charts of lunacy & lies about their opponents. I have never in my 60+ years of life seen such negative & blatantly untrue political ads. And they bunch them up so it's a stream of anti-democrat ads at once.
