If the regime continues to prosecute critics, pressure news outlets to shut down, attack our vote-by-mail system, and engage in lawless wars, it’s time for the people of #Cascadia to consider a radical but rational solution: separation from the United States. www.cascadia-journal.com/its-time-for...

If you care about fighting climate change, salvaging the Amazon rainforest and maintaining its capacity to positively influence Earth's weather systems, it's difficult to overstate just how significant a bullet the planet just dodged.

This is the terror our communities are experiencing. #waleg and the Governor are not doing enough to protect our neighbors. The mask ban was such a waste of legislation. Stop sharing data with the Feds!

Yesterday in #Burien, #ICE agents were observed using AR-15-style weapons during the abduction of a community member. Today, they pointed a pistol at a rapid response volunteer, who had been observing from over 20ft away. #ICE is quickly becoming more violent www.facebook.com/share/p/18wA...

This so sad and infuriating. A Canadian woman who lives in the US enclave of Point Roberts and was detained by border patrol agents for six hours over bogus illegal voting claims has died because she was too scared to cross the border again to get medical care. www.cascadiadaily.com/2026/oct/20/...

Washington State’s millionaires tax will fund universal free school meals for every public school student in the state. Unless voters repeal the tax. Vote NO on I-645!

About 2 million kids have lost SNAP since deep cuts were enacted last year. The ripple effects: Kids losing SNAP also lose automatic enrollment for free meals at school. And as more kids lose SNAP, their schools may be forced to drop Community Eligibility.

Cascadia Journal is unequivocally a supporter of @electioncheatsheet.org, a fantastic aggregator of left-leaning endorsements in Seattle-area elections. Plus, it's got a nifty feature that lets you quickly see campaign spending data. 🏆

I already turned in my WA ballot but maybe you haven’t? Maybe you’re hearing conflicting things about one of the candidates? Really nice, concise summaries of the candidates here. I read it even though I didn’t need to!

I had more than one person ask me to look into this, and here we are. I wrote about the Washington Appellate Project (they're the reason we don't have the death penalty in WA, for ex) and how a contract dispute with the state Dept of Public Defense might lead to its closure.

The Urbanist@theurbanist.org

Washington's only non-profit appellate public defense law firm has historically been tasked with handling around 40% of public defense appeals. But without a new contract agreement, it could have to close its doors at the end of the year. Story: www.theurbanist.org/unfathomable...
