Ok so the first project was saggar firing; putting the vessels in a container with organic materials and salt to make designs on the pottery. Kind of a bust but putting everything in the fire was fun

Oh actually before we rigged it into a kiln, we did a barrel fire with copper salts. That was fun but the only one that really had results was the little tealight holder in the front (that came out kind of pinkish) still fun to light stuff on fire tho

That night we put the terracotta pieces into a pit fire. Some of the pieces got busted being heated too quickly, and the next morning a really cool leaf soap holder got stepped on :c but it was a semi-succesful firing.

Materials for the kiln werent delivered right, which we didnt realize til the last minute. So we couldnt get the pottery hot enough for a glaze reaction. And the reduction "chambers" and matetials were not a good idea lol

So, no glazes, but we had horsehair for a traditional design technique. You just touch it to the piece fresh out of the kiln. I didnt get any close ups of how it turned out lol. People grabbed all kinds of other things to try too. Someone made memorial pieces with hair (🥲)

Second project was raku firing - we (our teacher and the students with like, fire and construction experience lol) rigged up a "kiln" to heat pieces to certain temps within a short time, to then be rapidly cooled (and i just learned it's not true raku pottery lmao). Again, lots of problems -

It's a good thing that ive learned to recognize WHEN to do this but the sheer amount of time i am having to spend regulating my emotions for this job rn is very funny. I have been sitting here NOT stewing for like an hour. Like. Good job but also ive been sitting here for an hour now

Most of it isnt my fault but it's my responsibility to fix it and this final thing i just dont even know how to fix. And it's kind of huge. I shouldve told a lot of other things to fuck off to do this earlier
