Huh, u don’t say? I wonder where we’ve heard this before, years before? many times before? Minneapolis needs a true reckoning with itself the residents as well as the politics, particularly the comfortable residents

even tho I am not surprised, I continue to be stunned when I am discriminated against like what just happened to me. The stun is that these troglodytes run companies and have power in this country. U really dont want to walk around on guard, so u put it to the back of ur mind

it is really withering to go from the murder of George Floyd + the uprisings of '20 to the apathy toward Kohen Wiley's murder in '26 - I guess that is the point of white supremacy, to wither our values and what u know is right, what u are willing to fight for, wither it into dust

Jacob Frey will put the smack down on ride share workers, but when it comes time to do his unitary job and stand up to police waste, fraud and abuse he is the meekest little mouse mayor.

You have to ask yourself why do you need The Star Tribune pretending they’re saying something relevant when you’ve heard it 100 times from folks to the left of you, but ignored it every time you heard it? Even though it was just as reasonable and prudent then as it is now.

Had to laugh at the relatively innocuous but indelible copaganda in the lead grafs here. IIRC Mols was the last Mn city PD that had a mounted patrol. You’d think they might mention that. www.startribune.com/mounted-poli...

If the mounted patrol is so popular and "politicized," why couldn't the Downtown Council and its corporate benefactors raise the dollars Chief O’Hara pledged to raise? When we depend on philanthropy to prop up vital public services, we learn which services the gilded class really cares about.

Be so for real. MPD is consistently wasting their funding on unnecessary resources and taxpayers are funding their settlements for illegal actions. But the Star Tribune chooses to publish a story on saving MPD’s horses that are not making our city safer.

The Democrats thereby re-legitimized and enacted the right’s law-and-order agenda. This has led to an increase in police murders every year since 2020 and paved the way for the return of the racist-in-chief Donald Trump and his white supremacist Republican Party.

Philanthropy (Minnesota philanthropy especially) is a system that sets up a bunch of struggling people and orgs beholden to rich folks piddly giving, and then resents them for being beholden on the that same set up. it is tedious.

the city of minneapolis had to pay the star tribune $31,500 to settle public records lawsuits already this year... what a waste of taxpayer dollars and they're apparently risking even more by continuing to refuse to hand over data www.startribune.com/minneapolis-...

Thank you photographer Chris Juhn (and Minneapolis Spiderman of course) for this banger.

Jacob Frey called it “structural change” in MPD - understand, they are both full of shit. Their “dramatic reforms” are also horseshit. They are literally just saying anything, meaning nothing.

Jeffries stop short of committing to holding a vote to abolish ICE is he's House Speaker next January, but says he's "committed to dramatically reforming ICE ... the masks should come off, body cameras should come on, judicial warrants should be required."

DA alludes here to the reality that we could’ve won, and maybe we would have, who knows! were it not for the powerful entities that defeated us in very specific ways over several years. What to do about that is different than tweaking messaging.

the rest of the country should know, Minneapolis has a whole story, beginning middle and end, about how right wingnuts and petty centrist corporate libs banded together to stop a coalition of working people united to defund the police and invest that largesse in the people.

I am extremely troubled by the amount of standby pay issued to MPD officers during Operation Metro Surge. MPD data shows some officers were paid nearly 24 hours per day for 32 days straight, while dozens were paid 8-12 extra hours each day while we stood out in the cold protecting our neighbors. 1/

The Minneapolis Police Department is on pace to blow its budget by over $23 million this year — well beyond the extra overtime racked up during the federal immigration crackdown.

bruh, you cannot, must not look away when they trying to sell you $31 million in police overtime (to an already bloated $230 million budget), sell you a "mysterious" $30 mil budget deficit and need for you to pony up more cash. You should be outraged. You should demand better.

Minneapolis leaders are weighing budget cuts and a possible property tax increase as the city faces a $30 million shortfall.

$31 million in police overtime for police to stand around (often times stand down from home on call) while we stood up to the feds alone and put our bodies on the line - it is unconscionable. The lack of leadership from the mayor astonishing.

and they always avoid these kind of quotes in the research “First, investing in young children’s health and education is extremely effective at reducing crime in the future.” - so I ask where is the investment in health and education equal to police?

The video of the police shooting Corey Ruiz in Wisconsin is as horrifying as it is painfully familiar. Time and again, we’ve watched law enforcement kill Black men with impunity, and leave families and communities devastated. No one should accept this as normal.

Heads up that there are videos circulating of the police lynching in Madison, WI. Good time to turn off video auto-play if you havent already. RIP Corey Ruiz. Fuck the police.

Police murdered a Black man in the street in Madison WI today. Shot point blank in the head while on the ground, tased, and surrounded by four cops. It looks like an execution. Multiple videos circulating online. Things are about to get very bad here.

It's amazing how the convo about public safety, the police never have to produce any evidence of efficacy, on any particular level, and folks who irrationally scream for more police, despite police lack of proving, those voices get elevated when we need a rational convo the most.
