Missed the deadline for submitting my GDC talk because I thought it was at 11:59PM not 12:00PM. I know I should have done it earlier, but between a vacation and work this deadline snuck up on me.

The kraken bug was around so long a dev told me "You can't name EVERY bug Kraken". I told them it was the same bug they just said "my god"

Every game dev can tell you horror stories about battling seemingly un-squashable bugs. We sat down with our team to go behind the scenes of a nightmare bug they rightfully named, “the Kraken” as one monstrous source with “many tentacles”. The hilariously treacherous journey: ow.ly/7t9f50ZlM70

I showed up to the GDC Podcast Booth and forgot the laptop I needed to record my interview. Thankfully @buddingmonkey.bsky.social was a good sport and it maybe made for a better episode?

One of the perks of my job is getting to nerd out with developers talking about their games. @owlchemylabs.com has been in VR over a decade with tons of lessons and insights to share. Thanks to @buddingmonkey.bsky.social for being generous with his time at GDC. Full interview on @uploadvr.com

We talked with Andrew Eiche of Job Simulator's Owlchemy Labs at GDC about how the company stays relevant in an ever-changing VR landscape. Details here: www.uploadvr.com/job-simulato...

I've been very excited about this dimension for a long time. It's shaping up to be something special!

Live from Sporelando! We're reporting a rise in retiree golf cart accidents, sentient fungi and humidity higher than the rollercoasters held together by swamp sludge. So, just another Tuesday. Travel to Sporelando, available on Meta Quest and Android XR April 23rd! Shift in: ow.ly/FY2K50YxKQk

Placeholder assets in a game should look obnoxiously temporary, so obvious that no one would mistake it for the final asset. In past games we've used the doge dog (rip) as an icon, hot pink versions of characters, our CEO's head, etc. If you use a temp asset that seems passable, it may stay there.

I did a ton of press interviews at GDC. The common theme I kept relaying is: “Funding impacts design at the deepest levels of the industry” We make the games we can get paid to make.

Yay XR Accessibility! So proud of our new Snap Turn feature. It was developed when snap turn was exactly what I needed. I had surgery, resulting in frequent down time, and this feature allowed me to playtest from bed without needing to turn my body. Owning this project made it much more meaningful.

New Accessibility Feature! With our NEW Snap Turn feature enabled you can pivot your perspective with a simple button pinch giving you the power to rotate the world, not yourself. But wait, there’s more: ow.ly/PwE350YpIwS

My favorite bug I saw the team chatting about “There is a hole in the players’ head. When we fix it you can’t customize your avatar anymore. We’re going to leave the hole open and let the testers know”

Video games are about to have their Electron moment. Web tech is now capable and accessible enough that it is becoming a viable alternative. It also helps that Coding AI has been overtrained on TS and JS.

There was a 10 year period in tech where properly staffed core infrastructure of the internet. We got used to everything working all the time. We’re now in a post DOGE “replace juniors with AI world”. We get to relearn that the internet was people all along.

Now that VR is moving out of the bottom of the hype curve, I’m noticing there are many burned out cynics remaining in the community. Why? You could be a builder. VR is an incremental work. Help contribute to the medium or make space. We have enough obstacles. We don’t need wet blankets.
