It took John Smoltz zero pitching changes to bring up the Inevitable Reliever Blowup Theory. You knew it was going to happen. I knew it was going to happen. So I wrote about it, literally today.

obviously he said many funny things but this was my favorite zack greinke weirdness

Baseball Birthday@baseballbirthdays.bsky.social

Zack Greinke (43) Whitey Ford Bill Lee Bill Russell (78) George Bell (67) Khalil Greene (47) Jerry Garvin (71) Other Active Players: Ben Bowden (32) Luis Curvelo (26) Christian Moore (24) See more here https://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/birthdays.cgi

I also think it's worth highlighting how opener-heavy the #Dodgers were this season. Opener-heavy and starter-light is a worrying one-two punch. It speaks to a lack of confidence in their pitching depth.

In my wrap on the #Dodgers season, I couldn't help be examine how basically the entirety of MLB's best teams have at least some front office experience with Andrew Friedman. And now it's a WS matchup between his former no. 2's. www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article...

The starters for the Rays and Guardians in Game 1, Drew Rasmussen and Foster Griffin, were both born on July 27, 1995. It's the first time in MLB Postseason history that both starting pitchers were born on the same day. 🤯

I would like to thank Ro and whatever Sweeney is selling out her gender for this week. Thanks for making it perfectly clear that my kids, especially my impressionable young daughter, are not welcome during this #MLB broadcast. We've got plenty of body image issues at home, thank you very much.

Multiple times during the broadcast I thought to myself, "They got a really good crew on this commentary!" Well done #NBC on exactly this one thing.

between flemming, deshaies, and grant I gotta say I don't think I've heard more positive talk about baseball and how exciting it is and what makes it fun. really lovely thing to hear during a broadcast.

Levi Weaver, but for baseball@threetwoeephus.bsky.social

My favorite thing about Chris Sale is that guy who once cut up uniforms he didn’t like, who still touches 100 at 37 years old, who looks like he was just rescued from a remote mountain cabin, adorned in bear hide & mad at being found …routinely makes a body shape reminiscent of Stuart from MadTV

Trump and Republicans are terrified of policies that curb their own wealth and power, and the wealth and power of the oligarchs that bankroll them. That's why they're amping up the fearmongering about "socialism."

Assistant AG for Fraud Colin McDonald: "Apparently 35% of people have never even used their Obamacare account for any health services. That is a statistical impossibility and it's because these are not real people seeking real care. These are fraudsters."

And there it is. Pete Crow-Armstrong becomes the first Cub in franchise history to have a 40-40 season. He's the seventh player in MLB history with such a season.

watching Cooper Hjerpe...felt like a good time to check in on the most unique release points in MLB via Baseball Savant, highlighted a handful of notable outliers (min. 150 total pitches thrown):

Michael is always a good read, but this one was especially good.

After struggling much of the year, Ayami Sato tossed a complete game shutout to help the Queens win the first WPBL championship. But for the players in the league, this was about much more than one game. "This has been everything to me," Amanda Gianelloni said. www.mlb.com/news/queens-...

This is partly what I was ranting about on @ewpod.bsky.social. If the #MLB cared about the long term future of baseball as a sport, they would pass around a plate between the owners and toss $1M no-strings-attached to this league. #WPBL

Just imagine what happens when this league gets more funding. As a quick comparison: An entire WPBL team's salary cap: $95,000 Tarik Skubal's earnings throwing 13 pitches last year: $95,000 #WPBL
