the idea of fandoms needing to be fed consistently and stay "alive" by the people responsible for servicing it (i.e. developers/creators) seems a bit silly. people don't really have this mentality in most fandoms so why assume the responsibility lies on the creators

anydice is so useful for shit like this btw. curious how Forged in the Dark rolls work? here you go, "chance of at least this level of success" for 0, 1, 2, and 3 skill pips. The fact that success rates increase by 25% for the first few skill dice produce really clean, noticable power increases

There have been two occasions in my career where I had to go to war with teammates against mistaken understandings of probability. In both cases, it was because people expected large numbers of d6s to occasionally result in maximum damage. But the curves for 3d6 and 15d6 (e.g.) look like this:

the "iced coffee at a job interview" discussion is obviously stupid but also a great representation of the fact that every single HR person/recruiter has their own different made up rules for candidates and all of them think they are absolutely correct
