I've just voted for the recommended candidates and to keep the reactionary candidates out. If you're a member it would be great if you could consider doing the same.

It's that time of year again: annual elections of Council Members for the magnificent National Trust. Should you wish to vote for the Nomination Committee's recommended candidates, they are on page 18 of your booklet. 'Restore' and 'Reclaim' are again in the fray. Votes are due in by 30 October.

So I get that there's (yet again) a big debate going on about AI on Bluesky. I am turning off replies to this post because I don't want to have notifications flooded one way or the other on this one. I just want to share what I've heard multiple times in just the past two weeks.

"At the end of the day it goes dark." In isolation, that reads both as banal and bleak. Perfect for Morrissey.

Find your Morrissey album track name by taking the first sentence from the last message you sent. Mine is "I'll Say Hello and Then Go".

All lampposts to have a Union Flag or cross of St George (preferably both). Flogging for anyone removing them, flying a Union Flag upside down or flying the Union Flag below the St George's Cross.

I saw a familiar face across Trafalgar Square. Tried to catch his eye in the hope he'd recognise me and that would remind me how I knew him. He walked straight past me without acknowledgement. When I was about 20 yards beyond him, I realised it was Neil Kinnock who I've never met before or since.

It's pretty amazing that it's possible to do this - and shows why Bluesky is so much superior in ethos and functionality to the other place. Not sure I want to rebuild my old Twitter self here, though... a fresh start seems nice.

A quick thread on schools and phones. I'm quite in favour of older kids having phones and managing their own social relationships/travel/finances and learning about how to be good digital citizen. Seems sensible and useful preparation for more independence and autonomy.

Not sure whether to come back on here…no reflection on BSky, just don’t really have time for both. That’s why I stopped last time. But like lots of folk, find Musk Twitter grim. Is anyone really here? Or does X actually still have the numbers?!! 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Appointing Cameron as Foreign Secretary is the political equivalent of a football club saying "we'll give the manager's job to Sam Allardyce until the end of the season." Caretaker Foreign Secretary until the General Election.

Incredible message from Simon Case released by Covid Inquiry. I mean we all knew, but to see it set out so clearly by someone who was there...

I hadn't noticed ringtone sales had disappeared. They just sort of stopped. Also, sales seem to be doing fairly well right now at a gross level, but not as good as the 2000 peak. I wonder if a graph exists of revenues accruing to artists?

Simon Kuestenmacher@simongerman600.bsky.social

There are many takeaways from this chart but all that I can say is “thank god for the disappearance of ringtone sales”. Source: www.visualcapitalist.com/music-indust...
