My science fiction romance debut is a Read Now on Netgalley this weekend!! If you like anxious princesses, love interests who have been described as Poe Dameron X Flynn Ryder, spaceships with only one bed, fucked up family dynamics, and a dash of spice, PLEASE check out BY THE LIGHT on Netgalley!

this seems like a really good time to remind people that all catholics should stand vehemently against the death penalty. the state does not deserve the power to choose who lives and who dies.

as a teacher of queer students, my heart is breaking. just a few weeks ago one of my students had the courage to tell me she's transitioning. the road she is going to walk just got so much harder. these kids are bright and funny and insightful, they are the best of us. and we're punishing them.

The Trump administration has formally rescinded Title IX protections for LGBTQ+ students nationwide.

hello, i am feeling overwhelmed by the absolute trainwreck that is our public education system because what do you mean i have 6th graders who can't read cvc words or write a legible sentence but the district and the state are like "no more special education resources for you, figure it out bitch!!"

anyway i'm gonna have WORDS at the union meeting tomorrow but that does nothing to solve my problems today. i intentionally picked a low lexile level book to read with these kiddos bc i knew i would have low kids but when a kid's esl goal is "matching words and pictures" idk what i'm supposed to do

"you need to implement rigor but also differentiate for the illiterate kids" bruh do you hear yourself right now??? reasonable accommodations are one thing, but we are so so far beyond reasonable. like i'm at the point where i need to create two totally different curriculums or watch these kids fail

hello, i am feeling overwhelmed by the absolute trainwreck that is our public education system because what do you mean i have 6th graders who can't read cvc words or write a legible sentence but the district and the state are like "no more special education resources for you, figure it out bitch!!"

like i'm literally sending emails like "hey i think this kid needs to be in a resource classroom bc they literally are completely illiterate" and people are responding "yeah but....the state is probably getting rid of resource anyway so what's the point??"

"i don't wanna stand up against genocide because what if the children of the people committing the genocide get their feefees hurt" BARF go rot in a bog you useless sack of wet cement

This post is unavailable.

another thought on the ed sheeran thing—"i have my own thoughts on genocide but i'm not sharing them" is one of the most blatantly cowardly things i've seen someone say in a hot minute. good artists cannot and should not be apolitical therefore: ed sheeran is not a good artist.

one of the worst people i know has multiple ed sheeran tattoos, so there's that

Look, in Ed Sheeran's defence, his entire career up to now has been based on making music for people who don't have political opinions (derogatory).

It’s a surreal feeling, holding my book in my hands! (It’s a lot longer than I thought it would be.) My first ARC came and I’m absolutely stunned. It’s a real book! With words and pages and everything!

i have made all my writing friends watch this movie and i will watch it tonight in memorium. what a legend.

Farewell Tim Curry. While there are other roles he will be more remembered for he will always be a hero to me for the way he put the third reel of Clue on his back and carried it across the finish line. It's his energy timing that makes the ending work. I can't think of anyone else who'd do that.

MY FAVORITE BOOK ABOUT ROBOTS WITH TRAUMA RUNNING A NOODLE RESTURANT IS GETTING A SEQUEL I'M SO HYPEEEE

Annalee Newitz@annaleen.bsky.social

Now it can be told! The sequel to AUTOMATIC NOODLE is coming next fall ... get ready for NOODLE UNION! (Also note that my editor Stephanie Stein has a way with dad jokes.)

I am required by my school system to pull my own measles vaccine record to keep on file in case we have an outbreak in our county this year. We had trainings on how to spot measles last year. MEASLES. This shit is disgusting. Vaccinate your fucking kids.

this is not publishing related it's teaching related and also the person i have beef with has all ai-generated decorations in their classroom so i win by sheer force of the moral high ground already

Just saw a graphic from a groundbreaking study stating that kids who used AI on assignments tended to score better and spend less time on homework, but then do worse on the exams. Wow, if only I had like, a grain of common sense to help me understand this!!

You played the recorder in part to strengthen your fine motor skills and in part to introduce you to basic music theory concepts like rhythm, the C-major scale, and reading basic music notes. Your teachers wanted to make elementary music education available to all, not just the rich.

okay i ordered this for my classroom IMMEDIETLY but also found the ALA website is a treasure trove of classroom posters, please enjoy this one i also definitely bought because my middle schoolers will think it is incredible

In celebration of ALA’s 150th anniversary, the iconic David Bowie READ poster, first released in 1987, is back in print. An avid reader and library fan, Bowie was one of the first celebrities to pose for the READ campaign. Limited run. Get yours while supplies last: https://bit.ly/4qgL3dK 📚💙

Unironically just rated the first Warrior Cats book 4 stars on StoryGraph after finishing it with my son, those books still go so hard twenty years later and I'm not afraid to say it!!

Art tip: don't share everything you draw. Draw things you never intend to show anyone. Your brain needs time to just exist in a state that's not about performing for strangers. This used to be the normal way to exist before social media poisoned us.
