If you're using HTML invoker commands on a <button> to open and close a <dialog>, do you also include ARIA attributes on the button like aria-controls and/or aria-expanded? #a11y

Ugh! Wrestling with dates and timezones again. How do you store date values from users in a DB? HTML date input sends values as YYYY-MM-DD. This does not include timezones and is not ISO format. When converted to a Date object, it defaults to GMT, which means the user sees the wrong date

I need to do a deep dive on this tomorrow, but the Trump administration basically dismantled the US Forest Service last week, and did it so quietly I don't think anyone even knows that it happened or what it means. morethanjustparks.substack.com/p/breaking-t...

morethanjustparks.substack.comBREAKING: Trump Administration Orders Dismantling of the U.S. Forest ServiceThe headquarters is going to Utah. Every regional office is being shuttered. The research program is being destroyed.

What a waste of legislative time and money. Pennies are already round.

My brain doesn't understand that Palantir and Pelaton are different companies, and sometimes that makes the news seem very strange

Friends, I'm on the search for some contract work. If you or someone you know could use the help of a web developer with experience leading teams, building full-stack applications, adhering to accessibility guidelines, and being pleasant to work with, please let me know. :)

As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today.

ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.

@vivaldi.com the CTRL+TAB shortcut focuses browser tabs in some sort of random order I can't make sense of. Other browsers go left to right (or right to left with SHIFT). Is there a reason? Is this a bug? Am I an idiot? OS: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS

Ok, it seems to be based on chronological order for which tab was last focused...which still seems weird to me, but maybe just because I'm used to it the other way

Is there a way to ensure certain files that aren't in the app tree make it into the @svelte.dev Kit build output? I have a background process that pulls a file from a relative import. Works fine in dev. Can't find the file in prod :/

Having your own website is not always easy, but it's always worth it :)

you’re right! it feels mostly awful to Go Online™, these days. the internet in a sad state, for reason after reason after reason. but there is a way to fix it; to trade the voidful howling for a quiet & joyful song. here’s how to win the war for the soul of the internet, and build the Web We Want.

The design decision by @svelte.dev Kit to provide tools for early termination of route execution by calling `error()` or `redirect()` is awesome! That any code does not continue to execute after these functions are called makes it much more idiomatic and safe to write route handlers I <3 Svelte :)

Anyone have deep experience and strong opinions on valibot vs arktype? Seems like arktype doesn't strip object keys that are not defined in the schema, but are present in the input. I like that valibot does that for me.
