People often ask which telescope I use for astrophotography. So I thought I'd share a bit about my gear. I have a wide-field refractor and a Schmidt–Cassegrain. In a future post, I will also share my underwater camera rig. #astrophotography #astronomy #naturephotography #nature #eck #photography

I have been working on visualizing the appearance of proposed space mirrors on the night skies. As the beam approaches it appears as a column of light emerging from the darkness. At the beam center of a 600 km high 54 m. mirror the reflection gives a light similar to that of 38 Full Moons, 9.5 Lux.

I can't wait for this one to do it's thing! πŸˆ΄πŸ¦›πŸ”

And Lift Off! A glorious launch of #MMX, the start of an amazingly awesome 5 yr round trip to Mars' moon Phobos. 1yr to get there, 3yrs exploration landing on the surface (twice), then 1yr to get home with the bounty (2tbls of Phobos dust), arriving in the Australian outback in 2031! πŸ₯³πŸ”πŸ§ͺπŸ›°οΈπŸš€

NGC 7822, The Question Mark Nebula. I feel like it's been forever since I've imaged, and I'm pleased with how this one came out. This is the central region of what I hope to be 3x3 mosaic by the time I'm done. πŸŒŒπŸ”πŸ¦›

I always said "If you can invent a way to put more minutes in the day, you'll be a bajillionaire." I guess The General Conference on Weights and Measures is VERY SLOWLY trying to do just that! βŒšπŸ”πŸ¦›

No more leap seconds! Timekeeping is officially changing. Starting May 20, 2027, the international time standard will no longer use #leapseconds to keep it aligned with Earth’s rotation. What's that mean for you? Find out at: buff.ly/aeyE68h πŸ“Έ Pexels/ Stas Knop..

Brendan Larsen from Ngāmotu in Aotearoa and a member of the New Plymouth Astronomical Society took this stack over a couple of hours and estimates 14000 satellite trails. This is how bad it is now, it's set to get much much much worse - and then we lose Low […] [Original post on river.geek.nz]
