A charming series about young wizards entranced you as a child. A man wrote fan fiction of it, now he has movement that may be a sex cult. Senators meet with him about the machine god. The author wants to eradicate a gender minority, but the federal govt wants you to fuck one of them from her books.

“Bro, I am so radically for the status quo it’s redonk” That’s how “radical centrists” sound in my head.

รℓσαɳε ℓყรɓεƭɦ@sloanelysbeth.northsky.social

‘radical centrist’ is the dumbest label ppl self apply. yeah im the blandest beige you’ve ever seen but i promise you… im edgy!

A £100 credit to energy consumers, without energy nationalisation, is merely a handout to the private energy shareholders with one extra step. Sure, great, it'll cover most of a month for the average bill. Great. Thanks.

software engineers have this annoying obsession with forming little hammers out of terminology that sounds objective but is usually based on subjective wank - ‘clean code’, ‘code smells’, ‘agile’ - and repeatedly hitting each other to death with them

it occurs to me that i now effectively have a canid fursona (ashi the folf) and a felid oc (max the cat) currently forming my pfp and therefore i have chosen radical centrism in the cats vs dogs debate

i will forever be mad at myself for creating the material conditions that prevent me from just adopting max as a sona I was honestly at one point considering what I did to clippy the fox: palette swapping them into ashi’s colours and therefore TFing ashi into a cat but that’d be Weird

isn’t this the sort of shit Enron did?

John Healey reportedly including revenues from the not-yet-approved Rosebank oil field to fund his Budget would mean paying for this Budget with the health and security of ordinary working families and their children.

well, as in they’d sign deals then immediately frontload the projected revenues from those deals onto their financial statements no matter how speculative or far in the future, the need to deal with the consequent drop in revenue in future years or if the returns weren’t as high as planned be damned

CW: mental health I feel like I haven’t been this down since my mum died, and that’s an extremely low bar to drop towards. I’m genuinely not sure what to do with myself. Therapy is nearly impossible to get, especially trans-inclusive. I go to my GP, they’ll probably sertraline me up again.

CW: mental health there’s almost entirely one thing that has caused me to feel this low, and it won’t at all be a surprise to people who know me or have seen my constant skeeting about it: generative AI is absolutely fucking destroying my sanity and it feels inescapable and inevitable rn.

To disarm the big tech bomb, including AI, the public needs to be on high alert — as AI firms start to visibly wobble, we need clear demands and firm commitments from our leaders that if it all comes crashing down, the public won’t be the one left holding the bag.

Today’s budget looks like being worse for our future and the young than even anything Starmer came up with. A budget based on approval of mass new oil drilling is a betrayal of our future.

Stop Rosebank@stopcambo.bsky.social

Almost 600 scientists, ecologists, health professionals and more have called on Andy Burnham to reject the re-submitted application for drilling Rosebank The science is abundantly clear - we cannot open new oil and gas fields. @profbillmcguire.bsky.social

a lot of the shitpost left have already made very good and insightful comments on precisely *why* this iteration of the Labour Party has an obsession with moving the deckchairs on the Titanic so I’ll defer to them but fucking HELL it is exhausting to live with a government that does this shit

alongside trying to make trans people, neurodivergent people, migrants, international students, and anyone else Rupert, Morgan, and Joanne want gone from society disappear

Replying to @saulstaniforth.bsky.social

It's almost funny that these people think when the Labour Party was founded, they decided to name it after the threat to make people work harder and longer and with fewer or no protections because that would make people vote for them somehow.

In the last year, No More Robots has funded + is currently funding a dozen games, and has paid numerous devs to make prototypes happen for free But obviously, getting press is absolutely impossible for us, because only doom and gloom gets clicks

Steam's AI disclosures are akin to "forcing developers to list their voting history", says man who must hate seeing eggs virtue signal that they're free-range. https://bit.ly/4yHFEyK

it absolutely fucks my brain to know that people think that generative AI has left the world in anything but a much, much worse and much less meaningful and pleasant place to live in. it really does
