I wrote a new piece for foreign policy. The US's postwar role as guarantor of Europe’s security is over – and may even turn adversarial. But Europe has an overlooked trump card. When it comes to manufacturing Europe blows the US out of the water. Thread. 1/ foreignpolicy.com/2025/03/07/e...

German public TV just published this poll of first-time voters. A massive lead for socialist Left party on 27%. Left + SPD + Greens on 54% among first-time-voters. Those voters were also slightly less likely to vote AfD than national average. So much for the “far-right youth”.

Very cool paper!
New paper out with @jonasnahm.com! We argue that the recent rise—and limits—of green industrial policies and higher carbon prices reflect a powerful political strategy: Making countries' dominant economic interests and growth models central to climate policy. www.tandfonline.com/eprint/3QN3F...
Thank you so much, Sebastian, for your kind and thoughtful comments. It was a great workshop. Congratulations to the Karl Polanyi Society, the university of Vienna and CEU for hosting me! @sebdiessner.bsky.social
