"My colleagues at the airport are used to a lot when it comes to souvenirs in suitcases, but we've never had 37 live venomous snakes and 55 lizards from Mexico before," said Jens Ahland, spokesman for the Cologne Customs office. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Sony is considering releasing all 4 ‘BEATLES’ biopics on the same day in April 2028. Another idea being considered is offering a 4-pack of tickets to encourage fans to buy tickets to all 4 films at once. (Source: www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...)

One of those very cool threads that generates a bunch of great film recs.

What's the most beautiful horror movie you've ever seen? I would say Kwaidan, though I realize that's a pretty basic answer. But given Kwaidan as a benchmark, can you recommend a horror (or horror-adjacent) movie in that league, or even more gorgeous?

I saw that clip circulating yesterday and thought there could be a completely normal, non-sexist, explanation other than the rage bait one. Grateful for this (really well-written!) peek into a loving family, sad she felt she had to write it. themomoftheyear.substack.com/p/im-the-mom...

Never would have qualified for the internship, but can confirm that Brianne is great to work with.

From Tomas Alfredson’s Let the Right One In to Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil and beyond, Claira Curtis counts off twenty blood-chilling horror films set in the snow. Read more on Journal: https://boxd.it/3n6

Daily cool thing: JOHNNY HAMLET (1968), a Spaghetti Western version of the Shakespeare play that includes a cemetery in a cave, a gold heist, a sinister homerotic Rosencranz and Guildenstern, and a hardened Sheriff Polonius who literally crucifies Johnny on a big X for dumping Ophelia.

Cool thing of the day: SHE IS A HAUNTING, by Trang Thanh Tran. My daughter recommended this haunted-house YA novel to me. Genuinely creepy, with a strong sense of teenage angst, Vietnamese history, and ghost-story tropes. It took on complex topics, but kept zagging when I thought it would zig.

My new book is out next month, 3+ years in the writing. Was it worth it??? Now’s your chance to let me know! So far it’s got raves from PW, Kirkus, and Booklisr, whew. It’s on pre-order at 25% off today through Friday.

Can confirm.

I like Oxford a lot. Its architecture, and bookshops, and cafes, plus its all-pervading ambience of history and learning, but I think what I most like about it is its commas.

This is a cousin of one of the most frequent and consequential errors in separation of powers conversations--emphatically including lawyers and law profs. It's not Congress vs the President. It's *the law* vs the President.

Here’s to all the unsung workhorse litigators and their work product: Hot docs binders, chrons and deposition outlines. Where would we be without them?

ElieNYC@elienyc.bsky.social

I was *never* a "brilliant litigator" though. I was a workhorse litigator who could produce a hell of a hot docs binder.

All boils down to this:

I really have only one piece of advice that matters, I think all those talents would have agreed. Do the thing you want to do, and do it as often as you can, every day if possible. If you want to be an artist, draw, if you want to write comics, write. All the time, whenever you can. 5/

Based on difference in Letterboxd ratings, looks like SOUND OF MUSIC. I will freely concede this may be because of the numbers of times I was forced to watch it as a child.

This is either writing amateur history while America burns or a sub rosa justification for the last ten years. Either way, it shows how colossally out of touch this man is with the actual problems facing the American legal system and Constitution.
