I'm Hanna, a creative director / tech artist / writer who has worked on 40+ games, movies, and TV shows. I have a background in interactive fiction, UI, film, programming, VFX, theatre, journalism, and religious cult studies, which is both strangely confluent and difficult to fit in 300 characters.

Last Vancouver council meeting of the Ken Sim administration. Every four years, there’s a wrapup meeting that takes less than an hour, and is quick administrative things and goodbye speeches. Always a surreal last day of school feeling.

It would be pretty cool to see a dev's voting history, like if I knew a dev didn't want marginalized people to have access to their human rights I probably won't be super into anything they've written maybe if you're scared of your voting history it's time for some-reflection

Steam's AI disclosures are akin to "forcing developers to list their voting history", says man who must hate seeing eggs virtue signal that they're free-range. https://bit.ly/4yHFEyK

See, this is what I'm focusing on: the vast majority of people didn't want outright bigots in charge. They were just tired of the slow slide into hell. Why they decided to respond by jumping in headfirst, it's hard to know -- but xenophobia and Traditional Family Values weren't the biggest factors

This is only my second favorite Halloween story after the fishing shop that was putting loose fish hooks in kids' bags, which was in fact just a completely innocent if mystifying miscalculation

hanna ✨@andcuriouser.com

Last Halloween a local shop had a giant assortment of candy in wooden buckets by the front counter, without prices or anything because it was bougie like that, and it was so chaotic that all the neighborhood kids just robbed them blind and they were powerless to stop it

Spend the first few moments giving me a taste of how incredibly cool / profound / fun / emotionally devastating this experience is going to be. Then you've bought yourself a tiny bit of time to info dump. Then, overdeliver. Wash rinse repeat.

Been playing some demos. Lots of cool stuff. Some of yall need to rethink the beginning of your games. Unless handled carefully (ex. HL1) starting your game with 1+ minutes of zero interactivity feels bad. Bonus negative points if it's pure exposition.

using it anywhere (yes, even code) is an instant signal to the kind of person you are. the kind of shit you’re willing to sweep under the rug in the name of personal convenience. it’s entirely irrelevant how good AI is at a task

Eagerly refreshing, waiting to see if people voted in favour of asking the question about whether or not they should consider doing something they can't I remember watching the Quebec referendum. It felt... different than this.

Notable LGBTQ2S+ results for Vancouver city council: ✨ Solomon Yi-Kieran is non-binary uses they/them pronouns. ✨ Devyani Singh is queer. ✨ And not for nothing, Sean Orr is regularly seen in a "protect trans kids hat," and I can report he was LOUDLY leading chants at the Trans March this year.

No malice on the author's part, but I think this article's headline gets the story slightly wrong here. The closing post acknowledges AI has gotten better at decompilation, but the reason for the close is that the AI users are ruining the community's values and space. www.404media.co/video-game-r...

So weird that the "we should end human rights for minorities" party keeps finding bigots, if only we could spot some sort of connection

We're watching the internet go through another Eternal September, everything being drowned out by vibed and stolen slop. Soon it'll be nearly all noise, no signal. But what do you think we'll call this event? Simply "the Death of the Internet"? The "AIpocalypse"? We need to get this branded.

I might get cancelled for this, but there's no difference between washed and unwashed rice. Same flavour, same texture. I'm sorry it just needed to be said

I like seeing the dev of the SNES core on the Pocket actually telling one of these dudes off. Holy shit.

Every portfolio that gets sent to me that has even a whiff of AI (which is like 95% of them at this point), there's a 99% chance that three months ago their art skills mysteriously went from grade-school level to seasoned veteran

A big difference I've noticed between graphic design and creating music is that by the time I'm done a design, I inevitably hate it. When I'm making music, from the moment it's like 20% together, I love it, and I just keep loving it more until it's done, and then I keep loving it after

lol so you can buy a version of Insomniac's Wolverine that literally censors out any mention of queer people? wokeness has gone too far, everything has to be politically correct these days

It's actually a perfect time to call an election, if everyone hates you, but you're still one of the least worst options, and your opponents keep stepping on rakes like it's their day job

There’s such an easy answer to this “gotcha” question and it’s “Sports are inherently unsafe and unfair and it’s ridiculous to single out trans athletes when we allow 150 pound linebackers to go up against 260 pound linemen in freshman football on a daily basis. Let kids play with their friends.”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Talarico: "I oppose trans athletes playing in girls' sports if it endangers safety or fairness"

The funny thing is that this whole theory has been disproven so many times. Oppressed people don't want to oppress; they want to not be oppressed. Just because you're a shitty person who wants to oppress people doesn't mean that anyone else in your position would ever want to do the same.

For a certain kind of white man, there is no fear more primal than the fear that the people they have abused will gain power and treat them the same way.

Remember a few decades ago when you couldn't search your emails? No? That's because every mail client ever has had a search function, it's one of the most basic and fundamental features. On an unrelated note, what the hell, @proton.me

And I understand WHY -- privacy! but in the name of all that is holy this stuff should have been figured out before any of these products even made it to beta. They're not even particularly complicated problems, I could hack solutions together myself if I had a few spare days.

"The apps don't have these features, but you can use the web clients!" - Proton oh but if you're on mobile you still can't search mail lol And even on web clients, on desktop, there are major features missing. Like, you can duplicate calendar events -- but not if it's from a synced calendar

Everything looked so good on paper. I even signed up for an annual family subscription. Now, there's a really good chance I'll refund everything -- can't search email, can't search the calendar, can't copy events, there are SO MANY basic features that just don't exist
