JD Vance: "The price of gas goes up every time a foreign leader in the Middle East throws a tantrum" (This is different from what Vance said yesterday, which was "Gas prices are too high ... they skyrocket every time some tinpot dictator decides to throw a tantrum")

Relative to most animals humans are not even sexually dimorphic and it’s messed up we pretend otherwise.

Tyler@electriceden92.bsky.social

Patriarchal beauty standards are often ridiculous (no hair below the brows!) and arbitrary (four centuries ago, men were wearing leggings and pancake), but our concept of sex appeal is still rooted in sexual dimorphism - even sexualized butches are more likely to resemble male beefcake shots

It's a form of collectivism that does not give a shit about the greater good, and instead cares only about the greater aggrandizement. Hurt who you want, as long as you add to the glory of whiteness. Lie; that's all good.

Like, what science has RFK produced? What Nobel Prize has he won? What literature award has he been given? And yet he feels like he can put on the Cloak of Good Approval earned by the White Appreciation Society despite his lack of accomplishment because of his group membership.

The Bittersweetheart reposted

So I'm not gonna quote that stupid bullshit thing from RFK, but have you noticed that white supremacists insist that white culture is superior because they're individualists and Asians are collectivists and then they pull this shit? White supremacy is a form of collectivism. It's just a shitty one.

My entire career in RPGs has been focused on overcoming this issue. We do it in a lot of ways. The single biggest piece of advice I can give is that players know what can scare them. Empower the players to scare themselves, and they will. Incentivize sub-optimal choice making!

All this, plus adult drivers drinking that night. The irony is, what you're describing has been true for decades, but cops and the press spend FAR more time warning parents about sex offenders abducting their kids, which IRL isn't a significant threat at all. E.g.:

As discussed in the linked article, there are lots of factors that probably contribute to this spike, including more kids being out at night, dark costumes, masks that might limit vision or hearing. But pedestrian deaths are always tragic and preventable, and driver awareness is key.

A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

Fruit farms starting an active hate camp against bunlith should be a pretty good indication that if you're basically parroting stuff they're saying against any trans woman, you're clearly on the wrong side of things.

This is the point where I burst into tears because I have advised on RSUs and they are a nightmare, the tax structure around them compared to standard equity is an embodiment of "you will be taxed heavily for trying to become rich, but you won't be taxed at all if you are already rich."

The Bittersweetheart reposted

You can do the same thing, buying a house and borrowing against it—ha ha, just kidding, normal people get taxed annually on their wealth via property taxes, the "you can't tax wealth, the economy will collapse!" rule applies solely to the super-rich.

Steven T. Dennis@steventdennis.bsky.social

For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.

You don't just want me to understand and agree that it will take years of hard work by activists to restore rights that were uncontroversial US 6 yrs ago, you want me to say that's right and natural everyone has been blameless throughout, except Republicans and maybe trans people ourselves.

You want to be reassured that where Democrats' support weakened there was nothing else they could have done, and really it was the fault of trans people for not somehow maintaining public support in the face of that onslaught with no one else standing up for us or pushing back against Republicans.

The Bittersweetheart reposted

That's not what we're talking about. We're talking about whether those rights were graciously bestowed on them by a political party, or whether they were born equal, entitled to the same rights as anyone, and had to engage in a struggle to get others (including political parties) to recognize that.
