Finally have one for #TolkienTrewsday #TolkienTuesday! This week’s theme (Week 191) is “Lords of Gondolin”. We all know that Glamdring, Orcrist and Sting were famous blades of the First Age, but how did they end up in a Troll Cave thousands of years later? A fun podcast for you 👇
Tilly and Ash are back with Dr Adrián Maldonado to uncover the archaeological layers of The Hobbit! The team ask some surprising questions: Has Elrond let his familial ties to the material culture ruin the runic report of Gondolin swords? Have we got the Trolls entirely wrong this entire time?

“The town is devastated … I'm even trembling. The truth is that for those of us from Villena, this destroys us. It's part of our heritage, of our wealth," the mayor said. Makes me so sad to read this 😞 emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com?url=https%3A...

On August 5, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is predicted to crash onto the Moon. What has crashed on the Moon before? The very first human object to touch the Moon - Luna 2 in 1959. A probe, 3 bombs, and a rocket body! 🧪 🔭

"This battle of trying to erase the Palestinian culture and Palestinian memory – it’s not something theoretical" ... "Every scan, every backup and every replicated copy is an act of resistance against erasure...to ensure that Palestinian memory survives even if the places that hold it do not."
“We created this platform, the Palestine Museum Digital Archive, which is an unlootable archive,” says Amer Shomali the museum’s general director. The mission is to safeguard Palestinian history and make it available to those unable to visit Palestine.

Uh, did Emily Wilson's Odyssey takedown crash the @lrb.co.uk website?
"...attributed to the Ziwiye hoard, discovered in north-western Iran...a trove of gold, silver, bronze and terracotta found in 1947... the surviving pieces were 'sold in antique markets out of Iran in the 1960s' and 'are now scattered in different museums and private collections'.
