People on phones (including myself) remind me of the kids at science museums who just run around hitting all the buttons because it’s fun to make choices & exercise agency by hitting buttons.

Also pretty sure the appeal of phones is having a robot servant who always listens to you and does what you ask & what a great feeling to have this kind of power over something, anything, so we can’t put it down.

Pretty sure the appeal of social media/scrolling is that it’s an infinite inbox? Or it’s like you have a million new texts every second? We love the experience of receiving new stuff, doesn’t matter what stuff.

It's no longer left versus right, liberals versus conservatives or even Democrat versus Republican. It’s now democracy versus oligarchy. Freedom versus dictatorship. Right versus wrong. Know the stakes. The midterms are here.

I was going through a lot when we recorded this. My mom had just died, I was living in North Carolina away from most things I knew, and inside I was kicking with thoughts, ideas, turmoil, drama, dreams, and romance.

We recorded this album in a very down-and-dirty live way, and I think you can hear this spontaneity in the performances. But we sweated a lot over the production & sonic details, and I hope you can hear that, too!

with all respect: i'm losing touch with what AI does because i have no interest in it and it's not my business. nobody worries about me losing touch with developments in particle physics or artificial bull insemination. it's not my fault the richest guys on earth want me to make their toy my life

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does

We are all thinking the same thing this evening, right???: IS RINGO IN MAINE? If he wants to check out the newly renovated LL Bean flagship store then hit up a playground by a freezing rocky beach, he knows just who to call/skeet.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Thank God for podcasts. Not just for entertainment but for support. I wish they’d been around when I was a teen and struggling. They help so much -and are great for people like myself who struggle with sharing ourselves. As with music, we can just listen.

And this is why we don’t use Amazon.

Really is amazing that Bezos, Musk, Ellison et al realized you can buy established institutions and destroy them from within and there really isn't a way to stop them when losing money is inconsequential to them

Part of the “Dutch Bike Experience” is riding your bike in the rain and having the exact same stopping power you always do because your brakes were designed to be used in all conditions—not just on sunny summer days.
