Do you ever find yourself thinking, “Man, I wish I could read about beer, but I’ll die if I go that long without gay ennui”? Well, I’m the Minneapolis-based beer writer for you. Am I the best beer writer? No. Am I better than the beer writers for the Strib? Yes. Am I gay? Also yes. Duh. See above.

I’m sorry, how is it that so many Halloween playlists don’t include “Everyday Is Like Halloween” by Ministry? Are we letting the normies make our Halloween playlists?

Someone in a group for Minneapolis women I’m in just advertised a separate group dedicated to “luxury and femininity”—billing it as an “inclusive high society” group. Naturally, I asked if they have cans of Hamms available for those of us who have spent more time in dive bars than wine bars.

To each their own, but I’m not a fan of hanging out with white women LARPing wealth and sophistication. I am a gay witch lady. I have too many oligarchs and social media CEOs to curse, and not enough time as it is.

Anyone know how a girl can get some 16 mm skirt/coat guard clips for her dang Dutch bike without paying €30 in shipping for what’s basically $2 of plastic?

I need to point out that we read our stories out loud to the class. My story named him by first and last name. It was not ambiguous. When life gives you shitty people, write a story about them dying alone at the bottom of the ocean, and then read it to them in front of their peers.

Remembering the time in third grade that a boy in my class was mean to me, so for our next creative writing assignment, I wrote a story about me and my friends touring the Titanic wreckage that ended with him being left behind at the bottom of the ocean. I got in trouble, but I stand by my art.

James Carville and Clintonian dems *are moderate Republicans*. They have more in common with the Republicans than the DSA, and they aren’t even coy about it—they say it out loud. They’re truly mind-bogglingly obtuse and mediocre people. Holy hell.

"I would rather have the Republicans keep the house." - James Carville

Overheard from some 8th graders at Ben & Jerry’s: “I heard that there was a rumor that he liked her.” Middle school, man. They’ve got rumors about rumors.

One of the fun things about being a parent is you can buy Pokémon fruit snacks for your kids and then decide you actually really like them and buy more for you and your partner to eat.

Also also also, I paid less in bus fare than I would have paid to park, and I got through an episode of Dolly Parton’s America I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to finish.

I’m generally very “to each their own” when it comes to religion and spirituality. But when the only person claiming to be visited by my father after his death is someone he hated in life and blamed for the estrangement of his son… Well, I have questions.

To be fair, the person in question didn’t deserve to be blamed for the estrangement. My brother was (and is!) a grown man, and he and my dad own all the decisions that led to them being estranged. But, still. They’re maybe not the person he’d be visiting from the great beyond, y’know?

Like, did you know Luke Slywalker’s cousin played bass in Dan Fogelberg’s band? And did you know Dan Fogelberg could strut his nonexistent ass around in tiny jeans? Also, did you know a cowbell could be cool? No. Of course you didn’t. Now you do.

Writing is weird because sometimes you’ll spend hours writing a thing that you know doesn’t have an audience because you *had* to get it out, and then when you’re done you just go back to strategically avoiding the thing that you’ve been thinking about for years that might actually have an audience.

How long can I delay writing the short story turned novel that I first dreamed up like 6 years ago? Surely it gets better with every year I procrastinate and tell myself I have too much going on. Right? That’s how it works? I think that’s how it works.

There are a lot of vegans and vegetarians that scoff at eating an Impossible Whopper at Burger King because “eww, processed foods.” And it’s sad, because those folks clearly have a whopper-sized hole in their hearts, and their pride prevents them from seeing it.

Missed connection: you were the white man driving a large Dodge truck in the Graham parking garage at Mayo Clinic in Rochester with a license plate that said “NUBIANS.” I was the lesbian woman in the Toyota behind you who looked at you like 🧐, and I’d like to ask you some follow up questions.

lmao the piece literally argues children are the problem for wanting positive relationships with their parents

Anyone else haunted by the fact that Robert Smith released Disintegration when he was 30 years old, and all you had to show for yourself at that age was a mortgage and your first child?

All the other moms comparing themselves to influencers have nothing on me. I compare myself to a famously childless man who is basically the distillation of musical talent.

It’s a premonition. It’s 2030. I35 has been demolished. There are free city bike docks on every corner. MCBL training is mandatory for all residents. Only a matter of time until Bike God Mayor Laura Mitchell decrees Lake Street closed to car traffic. So say we all.

In normal English: Whoopsy doodles, I cancelled my MeUndies subscription because why the fuck would I give money to a company chasing the bigot-wizard nostalgia money in the year of our lord 2026.

Nissa Mitchell@nissamitchell.com

2026 is rad because you can say shit like, "The Instagram subscription underwear company did a brand deal with the transphobic wizard lady to make themed covers for the bits that strangers want to check before you can go potty," and people are just like, "Oh? Kind of surprised it took that long."

If you believe that trans women are automatically better at sports than cis women, you are either a misogynist who believes men are inherently superior to women, brainwashed by bigoted or misogynistic fear mongering, or a bit of both. So please, for the love of god, just shut the fuck up already.

Until y’all have more than vibes to go off of, I’m going to keep saying you’re full of shit. Show me the science that justifies banning all trans women from all women’s sports. And, until you have that, kindly go crawl under a rock.

Lots of dudes out here acting like they could dominate women’s sports when they can’t even hit the level of a local competitive women’s rec league. 🙃

Look what my best friend got me today! “Date-a-versary” 😂. So, funny story: 21 years ago, a friend asked if me and @lauragmitchell.com were dating and for some reason we said *yes.* OMG. So funny. So then we became roommates. Because we were *dating,* duh! 😂🤣😂

We really played it up. Dates, making out, all of it. We even moved to Colorado together, had a wedding in Minneapolis, and decided to have some babies together—because that’s what “wives” do! 🤣 Now we’re back in Minnesota, living in a house we bought, and raising our children 😂🤪😂. Omg so hilarious.

Really lucky to have a bestie with a sense of humor. God, she’s so fun to live with, too. And, even if I can’t stop laughing sometimes at how funny it is to kiss your best friend, she’s a pretty good kisser 😂😳🫢. So like, that brings me to the problem: chat, how do I tell her I’m super gay for her? 😅

I just want you to know that if anyone asks, the Hennepin Ave Bikeway killed French Meadow in Minneapolis. People will try to tell you Hennepin Ave is blocks away from French Meadow, and entirely unrelated. Don’t let them. We all know it’s true.

Hold up, I’m getting word that it *could* have been the ghost of Lyndale Ave Future that did it (also has a bike lane). But my money is on Hennepin Ave. That bikeway killed a close friend of mine’s used Ben Wa Balls boutique—and I definitely did not make that up for the purposes of this argument.

The real social technology is “Da Gang” and “Consciously Hosting people.” Anyway this is why I hate the whole “you don’t owe other people anything” vein of self care discourse.

Anders@derzquist.net

Lots of Third Space Discourse envisions a pattern where individuals go to a place and then connect with others to form a group. But I think the real dynamic is where people first form a group and then go adopt a space to (formally or informally) make their own.
