Trump says tariffs will pay for the $5,000 checks. But tariffs have brought in about $140 billion extra so far, against a $1.2 trillion promise. That covers roughly eleven cents per dollar. The rest just gets borrowed. newsletter.platypuseconomics.com/p/i-promise-...

These are my latest one-of-a-kind raku pieces. No one’s buying right now, and I understand - art isn’t always the priority in difficult times. But I’m still making, and sharing a little beauty feels worthwhile. A like or share might help these pieces find their people. 🙏

Newsom: "He's not screwing around. He wasn't screwing around when he called Greg Abbott for 5 seats, said he was entitled to 5 seats. Why does he do that? Because he knows he's going to lose the election unless he rigs the election before one vote is cast. That is what we're up against."

That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers. Reminder that Congress has the power to stop this.

Given that Trump’s agenda is so unpopular, you have to seriously question what the Republicans in Congress are doing Because no amount of gerrymandering will overcome millions of people losing SNAP and healthcare insurance while they get fired as costs continue to rise

New in PN: Trump couldn't (legitimately) win a third term If he tried "What’s astonishing about the media’s 'third term' coverage is how it doesn’t clearly state the obvious: Voters are openly rejecting Trump, as seen in poll after poll."

The parallel is almost too neat: a demolition of something sacred carried out under the auspices of improvement. In both cases, the act is cloaked in the language of renewal but animated by ego, sustained by spectacle, and shadowed by the pursuit of personal gain.

For some reason, I was just thinking about how Trump’s former chief of staff tried to warn us right before the election that Trump was a fascist who wanted to rule us like a dictator … and the New York Times put that story on page A12

That silence is deafening. You can’t just assume that you will be able to make this right again in 4 years. 4 months might be too late. These power hungry people are not going to relinquish anything when completely entrenched.

Trumpists will continue to be furious at any dissent no matter how much power they steal. That’s because the administration is premised on pathological insecurity. They’re shitty people, they know it, and they will never stop resenting being seen as shitty people.
