Six months ago this morning, I was out with my kids, on the way to the park. I knew the collection of police vehicles along Wellington Cres signaled tragedy on a dangerous stretch of road, but my heart sank when I saw Rob Jenner’s mangled bike laying alongside a stretch we traveled regularly.

There’s something deeply disquieting about the way very powerful people boosting this technology keep giving examples of trivial but relational tasks as use cases. Do they learn this is hard after giving over all thought to the machine? Can anyone possibly benefit by offloading relationship to it?

cool, cool

I honestly struggle to think of an example of being more alienated from your own humanity than asking a machine to describe your own child for you.

Not to ruin anyone’s Sunday afternoon, but Brazilians are voting for president today. We’ll start getting returns at 4pm ET, and, based on the results of the first round it’d be a clear surprise if Lula survives against Bolsonaro — even if polls have tightened in the last two weeks.

I'm biking down this hill with my kid in the back and a truck slows down beside me. Driver leans over and says, "Are you insane? You should be riding on the sidewalk!" I say, "That's illegal. Did you know that?" Wild idea, should drivers have to know the rules in order to drive?

Lily is a big part of why I’ll never give up on safe streets. We’re not done until every body can use the road in safety.

Today, Elizabeth "Lily" Shambrook was honored with a memorial sign, designating part of Leland Ave by Dover St as "Lily's Greenway".

They glued it and gave me a tetanus booster and I'm fine. But as I was walking over, a firetruck was pulling up to literally the same corner as earlier. And this is what happens when the city keeps doing fucking drug sweeps and people don't know their supply. I'm so goddamn mad

Something to keep in mind when we read “x amount of Ontario/Toronto/x doesn’t approve of bike lanes”. When bad faith leadership gins up a culture war issue that has nothing to do w most people & barely affects others.

"Make Eye Contact" also feels so disingenuous when there is seemingly no enforcement around tinted windows. It can be difficult for a fully-sighted person to even see the driver.

Hmmm, you know what, Mattie? You're right. The rapidly spinning corpse of Scott Adams *IS* a viable source of free green energy in these uncertain times, a fact which only makes it spin faster. Please excuse me while I invest in copper wire. (but seriously this was GREAT)

It’s not just that this secondary grid doesn’t exist, but also that cyclists need to get to their actual destinations safely, which are generally on main streets, since we don’t allow businesses on side streets. And because main streets are much more dangerous, even more need for bike lanes there
