As the first Indigenous judge appointed to an appellate court in Canada, LaForme’s life and legal career have been shaped by “the shadow of settler colonialism,” which he says contributed to the deep kinship that he feels to Jewish people and their “ancestral homeland.”

"A new social-media platform built by Canadians, for Canadians, and operated in Canada, will publicly launch in October with support from some of the most prominent names in the Canadian innovation sector."

It’s not lost on us that a new social platform isn’t exactly top of mind. Tech execs joining the U.S. military. More war. And here we are, grateful for everyone with us in this moment. A social platform isn’t all that social without good people supporting it.

“The Canada stuff started as a joke, and I suppose it still is a joke,” Critch sighs. “But the world is starting to realize there is no plan.”

From this morning's Globe & Mail: The tariffs will cut U.S. gross domestic product by 0.6 per cent over the next decade, the analysis found. It will raise the price of goods purchased in the country 0.9 per cent by 2026. ... inefficient policy, a strategy heavily weighted with negative tradeoffs,

According to the 2024 Ipsos World Affairs Report, Canada is the most positively viewed global leader, 79% of people across 30 countries believe we’re a force for good. Stability, respect, kindness. That’s the reputation on the line every time we vote. Leading ahead of Germany and France.

On Red Dress Day, across Courtenay-Alberni, many formal & informal ceremonies and observances are taking place, each a powerful act of remembrance, solidarity, & a call for justice. I will never stop pushing for the full implementation of the Nat'l Inquiry's Calls for Justice. Today, and every day.

There’s something scary happening in the Canadian federal election. In Quebec, the Bloc leader is now telling voters “Carney WILL WIN” so people can vote to give the Bloc more seats. Singh is now saying Carney will get a “super majority” so voters can elect NDP candidates. Do you see the problem?

No matter what polls say, this Canadian election could be VERY close. Don’t be overconfident, apathetic, or unstrategic, like too many were in the United States. Look how that turned out for them. And for the world. TURNOUT WINS ELECTIONS. 2 more advance voting days. Make Mark Carney our PM.

“I’m proud to be Canadian, because when they go low, we get high – we go high.” – Michael Bublé in his opening remarks. It was unclear if this was quip about hosting in a city known for its stoners, or a genuine stumble.

While the U.S. grapples with an egg shortage caused by avian flu, eggs remain plentiful and affordable in Canada. There are reasons for that, including that egg farms there tend to be smaller.

Reminder to both U.S. residents and Canadians that everyone out there right now badly needs to understand what a tariff is, how they work, AND WHO PAYS FOR THEM. Hint: Not surprisingly, almost everything Trump says about tariffs, Canada, Mexico, and the EU is a lie. Please watch and share.

IMPORTANT: If you live in the United States or Canada, you’ve probably heard Trump‘s constant claim that the United States is “subsidizing” Canada. It’s wrong of course, but here’s the best explanation I’ve seen about how & why it’s wrong. PLEASE WATCH & SHARE IT A LOT. Kudos to Andrew Chang & CBC.

You are up to date.
