The issue here is that a car didn’t drive anywhere. Look at the underside, it’s a square tube skate board wearing the skin of a Tesla

Alex Hern@hern.bsky.social

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

If anyone wants some anecdata I’ve spent the last 12 years going around rural areas of Ohio for work and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many yard signs for D candidates. Still plenty of R signs, but it used to be 1 Dem sign in a whole day, now it’s a 1/2 dozen

If you want to be skeptical of Blexas because you feel like it’s Lucy and the football I’m fine with that to a point. But I do need people to acknowledge how different things are now vs 2018 “Trump never sees consequences”. It’s a midterm, he lost it the last time and everyone hates him more now.

🚨REPUBLICANS HAVE A SENATE PROBLEM. NC: Cooper +14 GA: Ossoff +8.1 NH: Pappas +5.9 OH: Brown +3.1 TX: Talarico +2.7 MI: El-Sayed +2.7 MN: Flanagan +2.2 AK: Peltola +1.4 ME: Jackson +1.2 IA: Turek +0.6 KS: TIED The map is expanding. A Dem Senate majority is within reach. Now let’s finish the job.

“I can’t trust polls after the last 10 years”. Why not? It’s been pretty accurate the whole time. A 1 or 2 point margin doesn’t guarantee victory anyway.

I keep getting Kalshi ads telling me how great the Cowboys are, sure people that rely on me losing money, I’ll take your word for it.

“How stupid is MAGA that they could believe (unbelievable thing)!?!?” I do think a few of them believe kids are getting sex changes at school, but no one that actually pushes this stuff does. It’s an attack to force people to defend it. Truth is irrelevant.

Diesel also competes with home heating oil and jet fuel/kerosene in that middle distillates band. The heating oil is especially important as we approach the season, I know I usually fill my tank around August to get in before winter pricing kicks up

Keith@mosheroperandi.bsky.social

Funnily enough, you might expect expensive diesel to make gas cheaper, as refining more barrels of oil for diesel increases the gas supply. But there's no excess refining capacity waiting on the wings; supply isn't going up. Demand destruction is the only choice. Harvest less food. Truck less stuff.

FYI my highest August price ever was 3.80 in 2022 and I just paid 4.94 a few weeks ago. I’m fortunate that my house is pretty well insulated and efficient so if it’s extra cold like last winter and I keep it over 70 I’ll use 400 gallons, but I can get it down to under 300 if needed.

Though “smug, hypocritical asshole” is what right wingers think MLK was, they’re just baffled as to why he was allowed to get away with it and they aren’t, so they assume it’s some kind of race card thing.

Micah@rincewind.run

“you can be fired for literally quoting this man’s actual bigoted words verbatim” is uh a problem if you’re trying to paint him as the right‘s version of MLK

The problem is that they *are* stupid. They aren’t MAHA because they’ve been incorrectly de-legitimized, they’ve been correctly dismissed.

The worst part of this is that Resident is actually a pretty important job sometimes! 9/11 slipped through the cracks on Bush II and I think they’re miles ahead of what we have on competency. At least when Reagan was a vegetable all the background ghouls had decades of government experience.

I am increasingly convinced that if he makes it to 2029, his incapacity will be a more pressing issue than his lawlessness or his fascism

This isn’t something you see much of on Bluesky, but what’s going on in the IHRA(International Hot Rod Association)right now is kind of right up its alley. A guy that owns a company that sort of builds data centers, mostly for xAI bought the body in 2024 and immediately started spending,

There’s more than a few conspiracy theories out there that this was a big scam to turn all the tracks into data centers, they’re usually big properties in more rural areas with good power infrastructure, and they’re grandfathered in for noise ordinances.

And that isn’t far fetched, we recently lost a road course facility to a data center near me. Just a wild story that keeps getting messier and promises to do significant damage to a hobby I enjoy.

xAI is suing his company for fraudulent billing practices and is cancelling their contracts, they’re countering them for nonpayment, and most all of the racing that IHRA owns is cancelled, racers haven’t been paid their purses, contractors and employees haven’t been paid either,

and a lot of those tracks he bought are in worse financial shape now than they were. They bought new equipment and invested money, staff have seen massive layoffs, and things are going dark. Now they can’t book races for 2027, because no one knows what’s going on and what the future is.

Most of the racers and fans were very excited, here was a guy with a lot of money willing to dump it into the sport, especially as a generation of track owners were looking for the exits, and most drag racing complexes functionally lose money because the land is worth more than they make.

Plenty of people were skeptical, myself included. It was moving too fast, there was no way to make the money he was spending back in any amount of time, and it all just seemed too good to be true. Welp, the bubble finally burst for them

buying up race tracks, other racing series, and other things like a powerboat racing series. He bumped up purses into the millions and made a lot of noise about giving the NHRA a run for its money.

On the one hand I want people to live their relationship in the way that is best for them, but on the other hand I struggle to imagine a relationship like this.

aly@aly.codes

this feels like it's true in spirit but dramatically falls apart when you are married to someone and have mutual obligations. we share bank accounts, residence, and debts. I can see anything he buys and am responsible for it. that's what marriage is. we are not legally distinct entities anymore.

Does my wife know my phone pin? She sure does, that way she can respond to texts while I’m driving. Plus if I didn’t trust her with my phone, I don’t trust her for *many* basic things I need to lean on her for. She’s my medical POA, how can I trust someone in life or death decisions but not my phone

“I don’t trust my partner not to go through my things and use it to harm me”. Well, the problem isn’t the password and keeping it to yourself doesn’t solve it. “I was hurt by an abusive ex”. Fair enough, but if it’s effecting your current relationship, therapy is a good first step to solving that.

I need to know what government policy can create more 1800 sq/ft houses on 1/2 acre lots 20 minutes from the city. I think there are significant issues facing the middle class today, but some of them are just problems every generation faced.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

I'm not trying to target anyone individually; don't go harass this person. But when people talk about not being able to get ahead, they often cite stuff like this. I just don't think it represents the death of the American Dream; they're prototypical middle-upper class concerns.

Did my parents buy a house in the same neighborhood when they bought a house? No, they moved even further out because houses by their parents cost too much. This is just the cycle of sprawl and it marches on until you decide to live in mixed high density housing.

There isn’t an endless supply of 3br/2ba houses on 1/2 acre lots 20 minutes from the city next to the trolley line, those are a finite resource. We can’t make more of those, you either need to go further out or move somewhere new

My grandfather grew up 10 minutes away from the steel plant he worked at after the war when he was growing up. Did he live that close when he bought a house? No, those houses cost too much so he moved 20 minutes away and drove 30 minutes to work.

I know a few war on terror vets and as far as I’m aware none of them are shithead rapists

A watershed piece. America will have have a very hard time becoming less imperialist as long as combat service is sentimentalized and fetishized, when it actually tends to turn men into broken, hateful people, and helps make things like like Trumpism happen. www.newyorker.com/news/the-pol...

This is my biggest issue with the folks that are left of me trying to push a Marxist view onto American politics. It isn’t even an issue with the fundamentals. You can’t base your politics on class here, it just isn’t the dividing line.

I live in Pennsylvania, the fifth biggest state in the country and our yearly state budget is 50 billion. NYC has a 126 billion dollar budget.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

NYC has both a very powerful executive and a frankly enormous amount of fiscal capacity relative to any other city or even most state governorships. I think more blue state Dems should think about ways to concentrate power and expand their jurisdictions fiscal capacity!

The Jones act sucks but it isn’t what’s limiting WV The problem WV has is that there isn’t any flat land, try to build some massive port and manufacturing hub when 500 yards from the river the ground rises to 1800 feet in the span of a few feet.

Pittsburgh had a renaissance with medical and a little tech because education was good, WVU is trying to do that in Morgantown but it’s an uphill climb, especially with PGH so close.

Charleston is the biggest city in the state with 45,000 people, which doesn’t even rank in the top 100 US cities. It’s just an extremely small state, it has more in common with a place like Montana but it’s plopped near the east coast so it gets compared to its neighbors

It’s an odd place topographically, usually rural states can rely on ag or manufacturing but all the places to put manuf. are already full, and there’s not many places to grow crops at scale. All that’s left is tourism, which they do see some of but competition in the northeast is tough for that.

I think Vance is worse because he might be more interested in the right wing project past his own skin, but I still don’t think he has the juice with the base that terrifies every other elected Republican into submission.

This post is unavailable.

Like the minute Trump is over the knives come out for who claims his spot and I think they just figuratively and in some cases literally kill each other. The Trump superpower is to convince different GOP factions that he’s their guy they can use to force their policy through, and Vance isn’t that.

This is an insane take. Before globalization crop failures just meant a bunch of people died. Now we ship a bunch of US corn and wheat somewhere and they don’t.

Telling conservative voters they’re voting against their own interests as a progressive isn’t a deep insight, it’s a fundamental misunderstanding of Republican interests.

Sky Marchini@sky.skymarchini.net

I’ve said before, many times, that basically every stripe of American politics believes that everyone else is just deluded or acting against their interest for some reason, instead of having genuinely held principles to the same degree as their own ones

Everyone wanted to see more sports on Bluesky, now the monkey paw has granted it

Mike Goodman@themlg.bsky.social

You motherfuckers have Will Stancil posting about it now. The absurdity we’re gonna have to deal with now. The dumbest fucking posters on this dumb fucking site who hadn’t even heard of soccer until ten minutes ago gonna reverse polarize themselves into the most absurd soccer takes ever conceived of

I’m not sure how we’re supposed to build an enduring progressive society if we turn up our noses at considering that the project is good and just and should be believed in.

W.E.D.em Boyz@leftistwonk.bsky.social

Almost none of the ”we need to reclaim patriotism” people ever explain ~why~ we should do so. They begin with the assumption that patriotism is a good thing. What if it’s not?

Like the whole anti-patriotism from the left concept is fundamentally untenable with our political goals. It’s basically right wing individualism, that’s why the left needs to reclaim patriotism. Because believing we can build a collective government that furthers our society requires it.

I have no idea if she’s the best player, because I don’t generally follow basketball, but as of her draft she became the only WNBA player I can name and pick out of a lineup. I do know she gets fouled a lot, which I notice because I *do* follow hockey, live near Pittsburgh and I remember Crosby.

T. Greg Doucette@gregdoucette.bsky.social

This is incoherent. A'ja Wilson is both the points leader and the blocks leader. Marina Mabrey leads in threes and is tied with Clark for average points (and is also white). Rhyne Howard is right behind her and also leads in steals. Clark is very good offensively! But not WNBA's "biggest star"

I think it sucks that a bunch of white nationalists have jumped on what seems to be an actual concern of the most recognizable player getting fouled continuously to be racist though.

The 2000 election is like a plane crash. No single thing was enough to bring it down, it’s the holes in 8 different slices of swiss cheese lining up just right.

Dr. Samantha Hancox-Li@sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com

i know this marks me as a millennial of a certain era but it's almost impossible to overstate how much the 2000 result went down to freak chance and also had an insane world-historical impact on the trajectory of the 21st century

The fact that there’s that kind of diversity is the issue. Who’s left to support this guy? What voter holds all the same positions as Starker and also isn’t just a torie or a reform voter?

Stanley Pignal@spignal.bsky.social

30 responses saying "I can't believe you don't understand Starmer's lack of popularity is down to this ONE thing" before giving 30 different answers. I stand by my point.

This is especially funny considering the entire GOP POTUS roster for the next cycle is Vance and Rubio. Seems bad to kneecap your presumptive front runner!

Shipwreck@shipwreck75.bsky.social

One congressional Republican tells me: “Conservatives on the Hill are stunned that Vance would erase all of Trump’s military victories in such a terrible deal. Trump effectively won the war and at the 11th hour Vance is negotiating his way to a loss.”-NewsNation

Many folks in the replies here do not understand that the body lines on this aren’t able to be seen under the camo. “Whitley is the beltline so high?” Probably because the vinyl is pulled 3 inches over the bottom of the window. Same on the front end “It’s so tall!” Maybe, prob just foam though
