Russia has been at the forefront of the rise of authoritarianism. Putinβs government has suppressed opposition in ways that Trump hopes to emulate.
Yet despite intense repression, there is still resistance in Russia. As Putinβs model proliferates, we should learn from it.

π¨ Noblogs appears to have been hacked.
A banner in the top right corner covering up the language change option now reads βFree Palestineβ and when clicked it opens a tab reading βSelf-deport NOWβ which redirects to the ICE government website.
U.S. State Department has designated leftist tech group Autisti/Inventati (A/I) a FTO, accusing it of ties to terrorist orgs due to the groupβs encrypted platforms such as Noblogs, a popular blogging platform with leftist groups.
A/I responded rebuking the designation: βWe will not back down.β
This is honestly the most incredible victory. If you know anything about the relevant discursive history your jaw is on the floor.
Like my god. We're gonna win.
Even if you drop next-token approaches and use something like a diffusion LM, the fundamental issue remains: the output is being sculpted out of a context-independent random prior, so even though diffusion gets you more diversity its specific choices are still random in a way determined by training.
A human author starts with a basic concept, hypothesis, intuition, feeling, or memory, and expands upon it. Thatβs abductive reasoning. There is absolutely no viable theoretical model for how it works. What LLMs do is closer to modeling the average reader than a writer.
And of course AI companies know this, which is why theyβve been adding βthinking modeβ, βplanning modeβ, etc. But all of those are fundamentally just more stages of next-token prediction, which can only fail at quality writing because it still fundamentally has no internal context guide.
You appear to believe that the βtrueβ statistical distribution of the next token in βgoodβ prose is almost as precise as in coding. Thatβs an insane hill to die on. The entire point of good prose is that it is born out of ambiguity. Contrast with poetry.
The reason why LLMs are inherently incapable of producing good prose is *precisely* that the source of that ambiguity in modern LLM design is an elementary probability distribution, whereas in human speech it is shaped by the abductive reasoning of the author.
The people arguing with you that watermarking can work are not swallowing Anthropic propaganda as you claim. They simply know that AI βproseβ is so inherently and unfixably dog shit that watermarking does nothing to make it worse.
I was under no illusions about Trotsky and other bolsheviks being in any sense reasonable guys but... "slavery under socialism is completely fine and cool" is truly jaw dropping
The Libertarian Party of Russia (LPR) is freezing all political activity after Russiaβs Justice Ministry added it to the countryβs βforeign agentsβ registry on July 17. The party says it will stop political work and stop accepting new supporters. meduza.io/en/news/2026...
Our state has one of the best police forces in the nation β and we're working to expand their talent pipeline and strengthen protections.
Today, I've signed legislation into law that supports their well-being, enhances roadway safety, and reduces preventable tragedies.
Imagine if hundreds of people died in hurricane or floods smashing through Europe

Just a small reminder that while we stand outcast amid the wonders we have made, all the world is ours and ours alone. We have laid the wide foundations, built it skyward stone by stone. It is ours. Not to slave in, but to master and to own. And we will birth a new world from the ashes of the old.
Transportation needs to be rethought in all kinds of ways. This vehicle -- 80 mile range, top speed 31 mph, $9k -- isn't for everyone, but it is a better solution for some than what's out there [ex China]. Creativity matters.
apparently the Mexican government has backed a new super cheap EV van, 100 percent made in Mexico, that looks sick as hell www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
It's straight up hilarious that they classify Christian Science as "Christian" but not the Mormons.
Further proof that almost no one knows what Christian Science is, despite them infesting DC (and Nixon's administration, Iran Contra, etc).
The new Department of Defense faith codes list also classifies Orthodox Judaism as a type of Orthodox Christianity and "Reformed Judaism" as a type of Reformed Christian, while classifying Messianic Jews as a type of Judaism.
Hello Chicagoans. I will be speaking at Pilsen Community Books on Saturday May 30, at 6pm, along with the great @gabrielwinant.bsky.social. Hope to see some of you there.
Again the reason that Dems can't play hardball is that they instinctively know deep in their bones that they have nothing prepared for higher rungs of escalation.
Every city councilor that even floated a .0005% reduction of police funding got a visit from the cops promising to murder their kids.
NEWS --> Top Virginia Dems have decided against exercising a procedural end-run around the State Supreme Court ruling that cost Dems four House seats, the Dem leader of the state senate tells me.
This will anger Dems who wanted an aggressive response.

If you think Killmonger was the good guy while he is practically twirling his moustache and talking about world conquest, just because he uses a few phrases that sound radical, you are actually not media literate enough to discuss this movie made for people 13 and over.
The left has to pivot ASAP from parroting "the stochastic parrots are totally useless" and embarrassingly made up fake numbers about water and heat, and instead recognize the already-actually-existing apocalyptic power that's rapidly being concentrated right now in the hands of a few.
That does sound very concerning. And in this case, I donβt think it is just hype. Otherwise they would not share this stuff with Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle et al.

Please boost the shit out of mainstream media coverage of Prarieland. This is the beginning of a lot of starker political repression and getting normies and libs to freak about it is our number one protective factor.
Taiwan, whose electrical grid relies on LNG for 40% of power generation, has an LNG emergency stockpile that will last around 11 days. Taiwan may be forced to ration power or reduce electricity to its industrial sector.-Politico

"the first or second question we ask of someone is, what does he or she do. The question smacks of a repressive social order, where work is life. ... In a different social order, perhaps, the question might be, what does he or she think or dream or believe." - jacoby, the last intellectuals

A new rash on the right side of President Donald Trumpβs neck is the result of a cream that heβs using as a βpreventative skin treatment,β his personal physician told CNN on Monday.
OpenAI employees pushed for the company to inform Canadian police about a user they thought would engage in real-world violence months before the person did just that, killing eight people in a horrific attack in Tumbler Ridge.
The company only reached out to police after the shooting had occurred.
