Vehicle automation systems reduce crashes by a lot, and they are improving. This study found automatic braking systems reduced rear end collisions by over 50% www.mitre.org/sites/defaul....
i challenge you to post one optimistic take or belief today on bluesky this needn’t be toxic positivity, just good ol’ run of the mill optimism/hope in the face of a torrential downpour of doom
If anyone else wants an XJ there is one with a for sale sign sitting on the levee by Cooter Browns.

This might be a good replacement for the iOS ssh apps that never seem to manage a session correctly!
Upcoming in my next version: a native web mobile UI! 📱 Zellij will have a dedicated web mobile UI with native web session switching, pane switching, a single-pane mode, a fit to screen toggle and a light/dark theme switch toggle 🪄. Read more >>> github.com/zellij-org/z...

It won’t stop at math. Machines getting better at thinking through abstract problems than we are is going to be an emotional crisis for lots of people. I wish we were engaging that directly instead of having ridiculous shadow-debates about GPUs’ inherent thirst for water.
Very worried about this sort of thing hitting more broadly:
The NHTSAs new rule that removes the requirement that passengers have a way to stop an autonomous vehicle is absurd. They say you should be able to request a stop, but if the computer ignores your you’re just along for the ride. www.jalopnik.com/2203830/nhts...

I see that—but there’s also a social urge to denigrate “fashion” partly because it’s seen as primarily a woman’s pursuit, and (esp as car enthusiasts) we need to push back on that. Cars *are* fashion accessories. We tell stories to other ppl about ourselves with our cars…

here's my SAE article about Slate. I did ask about the software being open source and available to users. Really, they'll give you access to data via the companion app for diagnostics. www.mobilityengineeringtech.com/component/co...

I don't understand how EV charging companies took a look at the millions of quick, standardized, and easy to operate gas pumps around the country, and said: "How can we make this process worse? I know, let's make it only work through a phone app, and require you to have a membership!"
Absolutely! and if by chance you do find a charger, you have to download their app, set up an account, give your credit card information, and hope everything works so you can pay whatever ridiculous price per kWh they decide to charge you. It is frustrating, to say the least!
Sooo many replies that accuse that article of not saying exactly what it says in the first few paragraphs! It’s about trans people fleeing persecution and rich conservatives not liking cities.
Recent research suggests there's more going on with "ideological sorting" than simply moving to places that match one's politics. It's often one of many deciding factors, such as taxes or safety. n.pr/3QobZdY

This reminded me of how you used to be able to DoS an office by sending a giant video to Slack(or maybe it was HipMonk?), and then every client would try to download it immediately tying up the office cable modem.
Pssst: We bumped the video upload limit from 100MB to 300MB to make posting bigger videos easier.
Also built on the assumption that no other company will come along and offer the same services for $22.6 trillion. Because efficiencies never show up in competitive pricing.

It’s absolutely a fishbowl where everyone tries to be holier than thou and the most wild stuff is what goes viral on social.
Anyway, my stance is that a lot of the complaints about AI are PR issues caused because nobody in Silicon Valley knows how to be normal, because being weird is how you signal to investors that you're different. It's not enough to say "It made me an app", you have to do this shit to stand out.
6 foot diameter tree trunk is BIG!
Cool thing about Olmsted docs on Audubon Park is that you can identify individual trees that still exist; plot their diameter through time. This overlay of 1936 plan shows Foucher Oaks between Mag and zoo with diameters (in) measured in 1899, 1919, and, by me, in 2021. We lost W5 in Ida August '21
I’ll be at the BSides NOLA conference today (it’s about information security bsides.org/event/bsides...). Is anyone else attending?
