One of the reasons I get so worked up about all this, apart from the clear-and-present danger, is it's a symptom of something bigger that's rotten. Many smart & serious establishment people still think it's silly to talk about though.

In Quebec City, an 11 year old boy was killed while he was on his bike earlier this year. A ceremony set for this weekend to install a ghost bike was cancelled because the boy's family has been inundated with hateful messages because ... speed bumps have been installed.

we need to respond to gen z's success at the box office with a millennialcore Backrooms. The interior of this pop-up kitchen seems normal at first... but then you start to notice the "kiss me and feed me tacos" neon signs become increasingly twisted... the shareables become unshareable...

DoorDash has ripped off more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers. We’re making them pay $131.5 million — the largest worker settlement in City history. This is New York, where hard work pays and greed will cost you.

In GOOD Toronto waterfront news, Biidaasige Park continues to green and grow. Toronto's East waterfront is truly a gem with Biidaasige, the Leslie Spit, and Woodbine Beach.

I took these before and after shots mere days apart in October 2024. Ontario Place West Island ripped down in the night, and this is how it still looks today.

A popular Toronto-based travel influencer posted an Instagram video and blog about how they replaced car trips with an e-cargo bike and how much they love it. This feels like an indication of big culture shifts - biking is really going mainstream in Toronto!

Ontario is still writing its rules for datacentres. But Ford's pitchdeck for foreign investors explicitly markets Hamilton’s waterfront for deregulated AI datacentre development, including "sovereign" AI opportunities." Sovereign AI. Built for foreign investors. With no rules. #HamOnt

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

For the first time in over 30 years, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Northern cod stock has been deemed “healthy” by Ottawa. www.canadianaffairs.news/2026/09/05/i...

Huge corporations like Amazon, Walmart, and Uber are among the top employers of SNAP and Medicaid recipients. Meanwhile, their CEOs are raking in multi-million dollar pay packages. How is this not a bigger scandal?

American workers are taking home their smallest share of the nation's wealth since 1947 — even as corporate profits soar. Why? This chart has the answer.

Uber just announced it will lay off 10% of its workforce, or around 3,300 workers. Last year, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi made $35M — 360 times his median employee's pay — and announced a $20B stock buyback program to further enrich shareholders and himself. Textbook corporate greed.

To the influencer shooting a doc on TO's "decline": I am sorry you came to our city with your mind already made up. I was also on the TTC a lot this weekend. Much was at Line Fe5t, where TTC employees volunteered to boost small biz in a community impacted by the province's delayed transit project.

Dan Seljak@anotherglassbox.bsky.social

I just got off the phone with the owner of Finch…despite the fact we saved the store from zoning challenges, the landlord is doubling the rent… so they’re throwing in the towel. Last day of business is today. Their sister store, Martin, will close at the end of the weekend.

3/5 Wab Kinew got it exactly right — the President is weak and cannot be trusted to abide by an agreement. We should stand firm, knowing it’s what the vast majority of Canadians want our government to do. But what happens next matters. We are not out of this yet.

Toronto business rent jumped almost 150% in 5 years. And it's still going up. On top of that, when a business is looking for a space, there's no transparency on how much local rent is - or who even owns the building. Help businesses get the transparency to succeed: commercialrent.ca/registry/

It’s surreal seeing it come full circle. The people stuck in the crowded Church Street sidewalk are now free to roam the streets! (At least during the 2 month pedestrianization pilot) Streets are for the people!

Rodney 🚧🚇@chanface.bsky.social

Was on Church Street last night to celebrate the pedestrian pilot passing at City Council and saw what originally inspired me to propose pedestrianizing it in the first place—sidewalks so crowded that spill into the parking lane!

Day 2 of church street pedestrianization. I am floored at how fast it happened. Nice work from the TSA interpreting a 8 sites. Even got into the Steps controversy (you can see the remnants of the steps in background)
