@ronentk.me didn't see a bug report button in the Semble UX, but I encountered two just now. First, it didn't detect an expired token until I attempted to create my card, booting me to a login screen and losing my progress. Second, it did this (android firefox).

Clicked this link hoping for a bunch of pictures of crazy ceramics; was disappointed. To fix this, I have created the new @semble.so collection 'Crazy Ceramics' semble.so/profile/7hir..., beginning with our lord and savior, Cockerel Vessel 24.97.21a, b. It's open, add some cool ceramics!

If it's easier to sign up for your website than it is to sign in, I see your priorities and do not appreciate them.

Pro tip: if you treat your knives poorly, eventually they become serrated enough to work great for cutting bagels

The truth still matters and it always will. Those who make a mockery of it may find advantage now, but the poison of their lies will afflict them and their power in time. Slowly, too slowly for many, but we can catalyze it.

i challenge you to post one optimistic take or belief today on bluesky this needn’t be toxic positivity, just good ol’ run of the mill optimism/hope in the face of a torrential downpour of doom

I would consider the ability to build excellent user experiences for novel systems strong evidence that the builder HAS internal experience.

And we're back! Got some totally intentional adversarial migration practice in after deleting all my DO droplets. Big thanks to @pds.dad for pdsmoover.com 's backup/restore features. I was a little blown a way by how trivial it was, took me <10m What a fantastic service to the community.

Developer democracy vindicated once again! I love Debian. Recently helped a non-tech friend get his gaming PC on it; he hasn't needed my help for weeks and says he loves it.

I did hit two snags when setting it up: installing Nvidia drivers tripped secure boot and the fix was easy but non-obvious. Some steam games (Palworld, some others) had problems being on an NTFS drive, ext4 was the answer. In both cases, better error messages and hand-holding would've been nice.

Terra Ignota: what a series. I need time to unpack what I've read and space to discuss it. It's also... so weighty and personal that I'm not comfortable dumping my partially-crystalized thoughts on the public internet. And that's before how spoiler-adjacent a lot of what I want to discuss is.

Partway through Too Like The Lightning (Ada Palmer). It's REALLY weird (laudatory).

jared@awarm.space

do u live in NYC and want to read and discuss the science fiction epic of our generation Terra Ignota?? If so, come to the reading group I am hosting next month! atmo.rsvp/p/did:plc:uk... (I will write a blog post soon on why I love this series so much if you need more convincing)

Discussing it with my sister, I described it as 'realistic', but that was the wrong word. What I meant was *rich*. Palmer paints a remarkably believable world; not in spite of how alien and incomprehensible it seems, but because of it.

She lays bare that much sci-fi centers on today's society transplanted somewhere exotic. Despite huge differences in history, situation, and technology, the people and their relations are familiar. Not so here. The book is a fascinating reminder of just how different people and groups can truly be.

This is nauseating.

the temu app will be studied for generations. i opened the app. here’s my unedited, nearly two-minute launch sequence. i was just searching for a bookshelf

Huh. Trying out Opus 5, and that's the second time today it's gone above any beyond. The first time was welcome, but it just built a little feature that I didn't ask for and don't want. Not sure what to make of this.

To install a PWA on iOS, you have to: - Navigate to the site - Open the menu - Click "share" (wtf!?) - Click the SECOND "more" ellipsis icon (not the first!) - Click "add to home screen" - Click the "Add" button This is, to me, unacceptably byzantine. Just deliberately hostile on Apple's part.

Just took me 15 tries to get a password accepted by Fidelity. If your app has requirements for a password, you need to tell me which I'm failing on, ESPECIALLY IF THEY'RE POORLY WRITTEN AND MEAN SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN WHAT THEY SAY

"Use one of the following special characters..." DOES NOT COMMUNICATE THAT ALL OTHER SPECIAL CHARACTERS ARE DISALLOWED!!! ALSO, WHY THE HELL AM NOT ALLOWED TO PUT AN ASTERISK IN MY PASSWORD OR HAVE IT BE OVER 20 CHARACTERS. WTF‽

The more you know about your program before you execute it the better, therefore Lean is the future of all programming. In this essay I shall...

Naturally, the question would be how to distinguish the two. It's not too hard to invent a sentance where updating a single character changes the meaning entirely; simple measures are easily gamable. LLMs might actually be the right tool for the job.

Backfilling Bluesky follows with Happyview, attempt 2: 18 hrs in, and it's working! However, I notice that it's not using much bandwidth. Should it really be waiting to resolve every PDS before downloading repos? I assume we're getting rate limited on PDS resolution. #atproto

Trezy@trezy.codes

New interface for tracking backfills in @happyview.dev. It updates in real-time to provide a much better view into how the backfill is going. Backfill jobs can also resume after a restart now, which wasn't always the case. #atproto

I'm pretty sure I'm not resource constrained anywhere. I tried creating a second follow backfill, but that one just reports a progress of 0/0.

Star Gambit Beta Launch: things are working, good times were had. As expected, no explosive uptake; time to focus on player experience and the community. If you'd like to give it a go, drop in tomorrow at 4-5pm Eastern (20:00 UTC) for our weekly play session! play.stargamb.it

What if we emphasize the shape of a handle instead of teaching vocabulary? With a little animation, we can show a examples of handles they might recognize and hint at more with "@proto.handle".
