A wee limerick: A grumpy old lady named Pat, Once had an untameable cat, To dispense with the wrangle She put it through the mangle, And sighed " Now it's flat and that's that!"

This bank is situated in Peebles High Street. Now, even though the robbery took place in the early hours of the morning, it beggars belief that none of the residents were woken by the noise or thought to phone the police, assuming that there is a police force in Peebles. Or was it their day off??

Norway produces more oil than Venezuela. And yet, between January and August 2026, electric vehicles made up 97.8 percent of all new cars sold in that country. Moving to EVs is often based on intelligence, not need. Which is why it lags in the notoriously short-sighted and stupid United States.

For limerick lovers - here's my latest contribution: There was an old fakir from Delhi, Who stuck needles and pins in his belhi, But his favourite trick Was to spin on his d--k, While consuming a bowlful of jelhi.

The fallout from the collapse of this glacier - a torrent of mud surging down the valley - killed hundreds of people. Gone, in a flash. Those people were wiped out by anthropogenic climate change. Our governments are simply not responding quickly enough to this disaster which is already upon us.

An incredibly well-timed Landsat 9 pass captured the effects of yesterday’s catastrophic glacier collapse near the Nepal–Tibet border. The event was so massive that it was detected by seismometers around the world.

I know the fashion is for short, “clean” sentences these days but I yearn for lengthier lines from time to time – how old fashioned of me! – & I love this from László Krasznahorkai in the New Yorker:

Reminds me of the Edinburgh trams, when I was a wee boy in 1950. They had seats which were reversible when the tram reached its terminus, ready for the return journey.

Re the ongoing Murrell case, I asked my adviser, Microsoft Co-Pilot, to explain the difference between the original missing amount and today's figure of £400,000. I attach the following - very interesting!

The ex-Mrs Murrell insults our intelligence by denying all knowledge of her husband's dodgy activities. I reckon that the number of people who believe her would fit quite comfortably in a phone box.

This painting is titled "Chair Car" and was created by the American realist artist Edward Hopper in 1965. “Chair Car" was one of Hopper's final paintings, often considered a summary of his career-long exploration of loneliness and stillness. It is currently held in a private collection.
