Just another friendly reminder that if you want a free digital copy of the novel I wrote about a wedding photographer who goes to a destination wedding and finds her ex in the wedding party, you can let me know here. Also, you can read an excerpt!

blog.29sunset.com29 Sunset missives: Request a free copy of my novel, "A Hell of a Wedding"Hello, again. This is a brief missive before I resume regular programming with a post next week. Sometime soon, I intend to publish a novel ...

Lot of folks (self included) expressing despair that despite aggressive prosecuting fascists ("doing everything right") Brazil was still going to get Bolsonaro-ed and the fact this guy gtfo-ed as quickly as he did should be a big signal for the AOC DOJ to go *hard* in 2029.

That should be enough. If you need 6k more words about why you should vote yes on 40: www.oaklandreviewofbooks.org/voting-guide...

Elizabeth Lopatto@lopatto.bsky.social

I'm in favor of prop 40 for a lot of reasons but the pettiest one is I want to see how hard these guys crash out if it passes www.nytimes.com/2026/10/27/t...

Didn't realize Israel was voting this week, too. Obviously, I'm picking and choosing to try to be optimistic, but Hungary in the spring, Brazil, Serbia, probably the US, and possibly Israel all voting in similar directions feels like a good thing.

ian bremmer@ianbremmer.com

voter turnout in israel at highest by midday since 1977 normally a good thing. for netanyahu, high arab turnout is an ‘emergency’ (…and an excuse to claim election was stolen, of course)

My expanded-brain idea is that the Hawks should play the opener, and to both ensure they play later in the day and promote the WNBA Finals, they should do it on the Dream's floor, with an added NBA three-point line.

Trivial NBA thing for which I've a half-baked idea that nonetheless I'm sharing here because I think it's pretty good: Do away with the gold collar tab for franchises that have won a title. Instead, individual players may wear the tag if they've been on a championship roster. (Ever? Or w/in 5 yrs?)

This feels right coming from the "dozens of people dying in a factory fire in Bangladesh is just the cost of doing international business" guy. He's basically saying that we should ignore the global context when trying to understand our own lives, which... fuck off, bro.

I think this becomes quite understandable in the context of an international fascist movement that has swept much of the planet in a decade, with horrifying and very extreme consequences for the entire species

A ✌🏾delightful✌🏾 thing about these general "AI" things is that they've pretty much all been imbued with inappropriate certainty. A list of links does not convey that kind of certainty. I've yet to see or hear of one of these things return an "I don't know" answer.

Good, sure, great, tell people to vote against Ramaswamy... But also, this shows the "we don't do endorsements" thing was unprincipled bullshit in the first place.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

The Ramaswamy ad has pushed the largest newspaper in Ohio, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, to reverse its position on endorsements. "A candidate who uses childhood sexual abuse as a weapon against the person who endured it has crossed a line that Ohioans should defend, whatever their party."

If LaMelo and Ant get along and feed off each other, vibes-wise, then I love the idea of the Timberwolves going full Video Game Basketball.

MELO PUTTIN' ON A SHOW

My anecdote for today that feels notable is that here in SF I recently went to a school event where there were hundreds of kids and their families, and BY FAR the most represented sports team brand was the Valkyries, on both kids and adults.

This is why JR Moehringer’s profile of Alex Rodriguez is journalism canon to me. He got unfettered access to A-Rod but refused to quote him in any way because he was a known liar. I’ve always wished political journalists would apply this thinking but they would never. www.espn.com/espn/feature...

It’s interesting how an experienced reporter (and who covered HRC for years) didnt record this interview “Chozick wrote it down in her notebook during one of her interviews with Holmes but did not record it and no longer has the notebook, she has told her editors.” www.nytimes.com/2026/10/22/i...

Musk is moaning about campaign funding?!

Dmitry Grozoubinski@explaintrade.com

Hey everyone, gather around! Elon Musk, the trillionaire defense contractor currently spending >$400m on political campaigns to prop up the party of a deeply unpopular president who launched the Iran War has some thoughts about Ukraine, elites, and money in politics.

More people need to read "Mickey7" (the movie is meh; the book is wildly entertaining).

trying to help a Hinge match understand that a digital copy of their brain being uploaded doesn't mean they're immortal now because they don't "get" to be the copy and their meat body will still die someday and really understanding why Catherine just gave up trying to explain that to Simon in SOMA

found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this

Don't know what I was expecting, but as a mediocre guitarist and singer, myself, this is just wall-to-wall "holy shit".

Even if you don't go along with everything in here, I think the bit about how when it comes to LLMs most people are operating from intuition is spot on and very accessibly stated.

I have a new newsletter today, about LLMs and interoception and introspection and narrative and definitely NOT consciousness why do you think it's about consciousness I would never write about consciousness buttondown.com/apperceptive...

My newest gestating idea on what AI is doing to brains involves baseball. If you were trying to put together a winning baseball team — or even just trying to understand baseball better — is that possible knowing only the state of the game before every at bat and the results of those at bats?

On the topic of "AI is great actually if you use it wisely, like me, the wise LLM power user." We interviewed a JavaScript developer with 7 years of experience this week for a mid-level role and had to hold his hand through optimizing a very simple nested for loop.

We're back to asymmetrical ballparks — both of them! — in the World Series.

David 29 Sunset@29sunset.com

If believe this is the first World Series matchup of teams with symmetrical ballparks since 1993: Phillies (Veteran's Stadium) vs. Blue Jays (Skydome).
