New from me in @newrepublic.com: “Primary Every Democrat.” If the current crop cannot demonstrate they care more about democracy than enjoying three-day weekends, we should flood the zone and challenge them all.

I refused to learn this man’s name he’ll always be “Kirkland Brand Gus Johnson” to me. h/t @defector.com
Chicago White Sox part ways with television play-by-play announcer John Schriffen
a baseball meme account I follow I had to unfollow because they quoted Madison Cawthorne (I could end the sentence here don't make me remember this person exists!!!) citing that Little League World Series TV rankings were higher than the Dream Finals games (played to accommodate Sombr) and I just...
there are some people I think would absolutely revel in this sort of mass rejection but Vivek does not strike me as one of them, therefore I am deciding this is hilarious to me.
Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.
One of the things I aspire to most is to make people feel seen in my writing. Four years ago today, my unhinged (barely hinged?) ode to the New York Mets dropped and it is one of my enduring cultural ciphers and I still hear about it from random people.
This book by Julianna Glasse is so good!! www.goodreads.com/book/show/24...
This is why JR Moehringer’s profile of Alex Rodriguez is journalism canon to me. He got unfettered access to A-Rod but refused to quote him in any way because he was a known liar. I’ve always wished political journalists would apply this thinking but they would never. www.espn.com/espn/feature...
It’s interesting how an experienced reporter (and who covered HRC for years) didnt record this interview “Chozick wrote it down in her notebook during one of her interviews with Holmes but did not record it and no longer has the notebook, she has told her editors.” www.nytimes.com/2026/10/22/i...
Honestly I had no idea this shrill failkaren even had a job in the administration until video of her throwing a beer at a Wiz game circulated yesterday. An administration full of losers.
Britt McHenry is no longer in her role as a press advisor for Trump’s Department of State following a viral video that showed her throwing a drink at a Wizards game, FOS reports She had just joined the admin last month
federal agents took a daycare teacher from a room of screaming toddlers in Chicago last fall during drop-off and it radicalized a bunch of yoga pants moms who started buying anti-ICE shirts.
A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

I fucking hate it here.
In some ways, I agree with @brianstraw.bsky.social that it feels like 10 years. On the other hand, everything from one year ago—the constant alerts of the presence of federal agents, the abduction of our neighbors in broad daylight, the start of this case—feels so fresh.
One year ago today, prosecutors in Chicago secured the "Broadview Six" indictment, a case held up by the Justice Department as a righteous defense of the "rule of law." Fast forward 12 months, it's about something much different. "It's been quite a year." www.chicagotribune.com/2026/10/23/b...
anyway a whole host of millennial midwest kids have photos just like the ones Abdul El-Sayed included in that ad. He is any and all of us, and the question we all have is whether our kids' generation will get to have them because the "joy as luxury" espoused by Mikes With Yachts price so many out.
I think we all want to see ourselves in those wholesome summer lake moments because we don’t want them to feel out of reach? Here’s Baby Meredith at her aunt’s place in Wisconsin, where the whole extended fam would go every July 4th.
I'm not in the political prediction business and who knows who the Democratic nominee will be in 2028, but it occurs to me that the other edge of the sword of "Congress does literally nothing" for senators who want to be president is that they don't vote enough to have Iraq War-level bad* votes.
We can and will reclaim control over our own destiny. We can and will meet our obligations to our children. And that begins with victory this fall.

SNCC photographer Danny Lyon is literally Jewish! He’s only 84 and still around
Vivek arrives at the pearly gates. "Mr. Washington, I think my life has pleased you. I have platformed the estranged mother of my political opponent, who was raped by said mother's second husband. And I have awkwardly attempted to rap bars of Eminem at political events."
The American civil religion is getting really fucking weird.
Netflix's Mo was such a good and important show and in season 2, Mo travels to Palestine to his family's olive groves. Maybe this weekend would be a good weekend to watch if you haven't already!
here is a photo of John Lewis being beaten to the ground on the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Bloody Sunday I wonder how that image was captured? Look I know these shitposters are dumb but sometimes that dumb is actually too much to let lie.
"The Jews who went to Mississippi didn't take selfies and post tweets." Okay, but honestly, if tweets had been a thing in 1961, many of them probably would have done.

I don’t know why I am always surprised that every normal person isn’t the exact amount of “2008 online” as me. I dropped “Baby Mangino” in conversation as if this were the most well known celebrity story of a generation.
