And thats the least of it, ngl. I gotta pay taxes, life bills, etc 🀷 People need to learn to just say its not in their budget instead of saying " it costs too much ". Like yes it might be expensive to *you*, but the comment comes across as an implication that (x) thing is not worth the pricetag.

Website domain payments + time maintaining the site. Electric costs of all the equipment (a powerful PC can cost ~$10 a month to run. Now add room lights, multiple monitors, etc)

Honestly, social media needs to be even bolder. The amount of time that and interacting with potential customers is so much, and a single bad interaction can be draining. I respect the professional comm artists a lot. I don't think clients know how much time commission artists spend *not* drawing

$30? Good grief! $30 will get you 2 movie tickets, no popcorn. Or 2 wood-pulp mass market paperback books. You can't even get ONE pair of cotton socks from the London sock company for as little as $30. $30 for a personalized hand drawn piece of art is a STEAL! (Can you raise your rates? Lordy)

Good for you! (And I was wrong, you can get THREE little mass market paperbacks for $30... but that's only because publishers are worried about the psychology of breaking the $9.99 limit, even though paper, like everything else, is getting more expensive -- hoo boy, I digress)

What?! Now $30 for a headshot is perfectly fine. What is that person talking about for real! Art is a luxury, they are paying for your art and skill. Yes there are some that can't afford art but that doesn't mean they have to complain about it. If they can't get the art then save up the money.

Pay my artist? Why would I do that? They are only the beating heart of the fandom I love and get endless content from. They are only providing me a super affordable service, that’s incredibly niche and specifically tailored to me. What am I supposed to do? Skip my morning frappe? NO SIR!

Not going to lie, I feel like I get 0 coms because my prices are higher than average and I'm smol artist still but like it takes me days, sometimes weeks to finish a piece when you consider all the steps I put into making something worth putting out there.

Broadening my horizons is my current goal. I got the chance to sit beside some friends at DenFur and try to sell some prints of more broadly appealing pieces. Unfortunately a lot of what's really selling at cons are stickers and pins which don't work great for my usual style uwu.

ARTISTS PLEASE UNDERSTAND. *All* the time you spend working counts. If the drawing itself takes 2hr to draw, but finding the poses, referencing animals, communicating, and getting lighting examples all takes another 4hr than you made a 6hr piece of art. They can find em if they want to save money.

Art is a luxury service. No one is required to buy it. So you're not required to undersell yourself to provide it. If you find you have to charge $x/hr to live, then you freaking charge $x/hr+ to live. If we all work together to maintain our standards it helps everyone <3

see this is why i do it for free 1) my art isnt good enough to pay for yet 2) so that "its to expensive" doesn't happen
