This is Mariner. He was born completely deaf, which means he gets to enjoy fireworks with all the sparkle and none of the boom. 13/10 (IG: real_marinertheseapuppy)

I took my dog to the very first display I could. I've found if they understand that the display is part of the 'boom' they are way less scared. We hide them in our house, under the covers and all they have is HEARING without understanding where and why. Show your dogs fireworks!

The last time we decided to set off fireworks (sparklers, Catherine wheels, volcanos, etc) one of our rescue dogs (who was fiercely protective of my Mom) escaped from the house when a visitor opened the patio door and decided to attack them. Cue burnt mouth and emergency vet visit.

Tks for posting this.Something similar happened in Hawaii in 2024.Family stored fireworks in their garage. The massive explosion caused 6 deaths,+20 severe injuries in one family. Hawaii enhanced prohibitions, upgraded possession of large amounts of fireworks to felony & increased fines. It's working.

Some things are blessings in disguise. Not everything, but some. Enjoy the fireworks Mariner..Gus will be a quivering, panting very anxious doggie. 🥺🐶💥

It depends on the pet. I had one dog who absolutely hated fireworks and thunderstorms and would hide under the bed - no sedative could touch that fear. My current dog is shelter mutt/hound mix who was probably bred to be a gun dog. She could not care any less if there are fireworks going off nearby.

They learn everything from us. The fearful ones I've worked with were only afraid with their anticipatory owners Any dog can be be desensitized for any noise or interaction with their environment It takes time with repetition exposure. Most owners rather coddle & pity them instead...makes it worse

If you took THAT as "snarky", I can't help you with that I've worked with many dogs afflicted by fireworks and other sound issues and they all got past it Maybe do some work with your dog to help them, not future their fears that actually come from you? Good Luck! Happy 4th!

We shoot off fireworks instead of guns. Some retrogrades still fire guns in the air in celebration though. I think gradually (or sooner I hope) there will be a shift to idk, drone light shows or something, and only a backward few will cling (with 9 fingers) to the noise, litter and gunpowder.

It's so odd to see a dog wag its tail during a fireworks display. I'm glad you told us he's deaf, or I would have thought, "No way! AI !" 😂 Happy to see him so excited! 💖

Mine too! She loves lights, so she doesn’t mind loud things as long as they’ve got pretty lights. Garbage trucks are her worst enemy, but she’ll tolerate a fire truck as long as the lights are going.

I had a chihuahua years ago (and he was not deaf!) who absolutely loved fireworks! He was a weird little guy. I miss him.

Besides the psychological impact on many humans/animals, fireworks are dangerous (burn injuries & deaths), a source of wildfires & pollution. They release large quantities of carbon dioxide, contributing to climate change & poor air quality. There are healthier ways of having fun (drones/lasers)!

Worst thing is that they make fireworks without the big kaboom, but people still need to measure their dicks with the noisy ones. My country is taking measures regarding fireworks, and promoting the sale of the flashy, not noisy ones, and yet every Xmas and New Year is horrible🤬

I don't like fireworks and I wish they were at the very least, left to professionals, but every 4th I'm reminded of my old neighbors dog when I was a kid. He would "chase the fireworks" to the end of the yard. He never minded them.

My current pal Asa the pitty, has zero fucks about it (but freaks out over getting his feet wet. weirdo) But my previous dogs suffered greatly. tried tranqs until I realized they were both high as giraffe balls AND terrified. Thereafter (and still) I spend the 4th evening in bed covered in mutt.

Our boy loved fireworks.. so much you could also watch them in the reflection of his eyes… once he turned 13 his demeanor has changed over it.. I think he’s just getting up there…

Ironically, none of my 3 cats care, and only 1 of my 3 bunnies reacted one time, but I'm autistic with hypersensitivity to loud sounds and my stress levels go through the roof every July

This is Bear. He crossed the rainbow bridge July 2024 from lymphoma at age 5. We spent that whole month hiding in the basement because neighborhood assholes lit off fireworks daily. Maybe this isn't the flex you think it is

My older dog who used to be terrified with fireworks is now deaf ( and his vision is also very poor) so he hasn’t had the shakes this year! I still get completely rattled by fireworks.

Nature is highly affected by these unnatural light and sound displays, plus the dust and particulates in the air affects lungs. The time for this boom boom light tradition is over. Go to drones which make for a silent, but spectacular show.

You're missing the point. Besides the psychological impact on many humans/animals, fireworks are dangerous for people/wildlife & a source of wildfires & pollution. So don-t promote fireworks as there are healthier ways of having fun (drones/lasers)!

My recently deceased assistance hound 🐕‍🦺 Sally, used to sit & watch fireworks with me without any issues at all. She also used to B OK in a very loud cinema, theatre or even a concert too so I was very lucky in that regard. Merle Sally's replacement is pretty chill too so far #Merle_Assistance_Hound

My sister had two cattle dogs who loved fireworks. They’d run out on the deck to watch and bark their heads off. It was the one day a year they could celebrate with a barkathon and not get yelled at.

It’s not merely the city/town fireworks, it’s the individual revelers. I live where the huge firework tent sales pop up a month before, where it’s allowed everywhere. So it’s constant all summer long. Btw, my dog used to be cool with going to the vet…10 yrs later, not so much! SAME with fireworks

Family and I have had several rescues in my 70+ yrs. I had a yorkie with excellent hearing who would run to the window to watch fireworks. Only dog I’ve known to do that.

My dog, Savannah...a plate falls in Chicago & she hears it in South Texas & proceeds to nearly break another finger. So, July 4 is today. Oh what gun (sarcasm) tonite will prove to be.

Dear Mariner, I am also deaf dear heart. I had a water polo accident a few years ago; so I don't cross roads without my human wife. I send my love and best thoughts to you. X 🐾❤️ ll

Our dog wasn't deaf, but didn't have the best hearing. She lived fireworks, too. People were more entertained watching her enjoying fireworks than the fireworks themselves.

Most people generally aren't against having fun. But it's something that causes huge issues for too many to dismiss as merely being a killjoy. If the event can't be fun without fireworks, then you're probably throwing a shit party tbf.

The number of wildfires that have been caused by fireworks + resulting property damage is significant. When wildfire season is getting worse every year, yeah, it is irresponsible and pointless for the risk. The epitome of 'I am going to do whatever I want and don't care what potential harm it causes

Why should they be banned? I kept my dog indoors and if neighbors let them off, I tried to adjust for my pet. Nazis want to control everyone else instead of controlling what they can. Do I think we need massive boom fireworks? No, but 4th of July isn't just about me.

Laser shows are more beautiful anyway and don't start wildfires. I learned this from visiting California, but here in MA, air quality is always bad on July 4, even without the wildfires

Really, you think a video showing a deaf dog watching fireworks is the wrong time to talk about the effect fireworks have on animals, people with PTSD, and the environment? Well you are entitled to your opinion...

You can still feel the ‘boom’ if you’re deaf. It’s one of those sounds that feels exactly like it sounds. Know from personal experience. Just sayin’. 😊

We had an old guy who was afraid of the LIGHTS not the noise. He went ballistic when neighbors put up totally silent flashing Christmas lights. Poor guy. Had to keep the curtains closed all holiday season.
