We had a chihuahua terrier mix that wanted long walks several times a day. The last one was around 10 pm. Same route, about a mile long. He kept up a good pace, happy as can be...until he decided he had enough and abruptly sat down and wouldn't budge. A little prince to be carried back home.

Dogs are smarter than their humans. If I let my dog choose our destination, we would end up at the Vet’s where, after performing a few tricks, he would receive a handful of dried liver! My attempts to divert him would result in me getting lost. Only he knew the way home.

My parents dog used to know which routes were shorter so she’d go ahead and wait hopefully along the longer option. All well and good until some family friends dogsat for her and they were told that the dog knew the walks. They ended up knocking on a farmer’s door three hours to ask directions home.
