Ok, it’s 2025 already and I’d like to state my 2025 indie-hacking goals: - get into the founder mode - launch my small business app - launch at least a 2nd app - deploy AI at work & life - at least 1K USD ARR - write articles (at least, monthly)

I'm back to desktop Linux after 10+ years using Apple OSes. macOS is aweome indeed – the MacBook-iPhone integration is unmatched by anything else. But, my experience with a powerful 1K-ish USD laptop running CachyOS has been absolutely amazing! I am *very impressed* with CachyOS / Arch ecosystem.

Back in AcerOS (aka: a rebranded Ubuntu), I had moments of total fury when dealing with APT shenanigans to keep system up to date. In CachyOS, it has multiple pkg repos – one CachyOS-specific, with these CPU-optimized pkgs, and normal "Arch Linux" pkgs repos. There's everything in there! 🤩

Then, I did set up Linuxbrew over it. For the rare cases I don't find smt in CachyOS' repos, Linuxbrew will be there. I gotta say: the DX has been VERY good! I am finally satisfied with a desktop Linux experience. Who would think 2026 would be The Year of Linux Desktop? Well, it is for me.

I also do type VERY FAST, use lots of kb shortcuts, open links/etc. on new tabs like I had 1TB RAM, keep multiple VS Code windows on multiple Git worktrees open – and the laptop keep up with it all. I am not an ordinary desktop user and I know I demand a lot from the hardware/OS. I am impressed.

Oh – I also been spinning containers and VMs with Podman Compose, and so far the Acer laptop didn't sweat on any of this. I gotta give kudos to Brave browser here, it's really impressive and performant, but overall CachyOS is indeed fckn performant. AND, this Arch Linux ecosystem is quite decent. 👌

It HAS the feature I was looking for! It comes with a setup of snapper over the btrfs. Perfect! Absolute cinema! So I got: raw performance (pkgs optimized for my CPU), a first-class btrfs support I can leverage, automatic snapshots whenever I touch system packages... It's a HUGE WIN!

I finally installed this on my Acer laptop (I initially had it installed on a refurbished laptop I still have), and I been using this for a couple of months. Heavy use! Multiple windows of Brave browser with 20-30 tabs each (ADHD, you know), Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp (ZapZap app) + LOTS of agents!

So, I came in pursuit of smt new. Initially, I was looking for some transactional OS – there are some projects with interesting ideas over OS recoverability I'd like to adopt. Fedora Silverblue and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed were ones I was really looking at. But then, I found this CachyOS thing. Weird.

I didn't like the name (still don't), but then it had this appealing thing of "performance-first", with pkgs optimized for specific CPU architectures. 🤔 Worth a try. I have other, way less powerful laptops, so I was testing CachyOS to see if it worked for them. It did. But then, I discovered smt,

It's capable of running some small models (4B ones with 50+ tps, 8B+ ones super-slow, but still running), and for 1K-ish USD in Brazil I thought it's quite a deal. But the UX of this AcerOS was *absolutely fckn terrible!* IMHO, the APT pkg manager from Debian/Ubuntu ecosystems is just NOT-usable.

GOSH! It's so terrible. NOTHING you want is really there to use. The pkgs available are often super-outdated, "in the name of stability" or smt, and you end up struggling with installing additional pkg managers over the OS one to have things working. (I really like and recommend Linuxbrew, btw.)

It's an Acer laptop. CPU is an 8-cores/16-hyperthreads AMD Ryzen™ 7 7735HS, 16GB RAM DDR5 (expandable to 32GB), a 6GB VRAM RTX4050, and a decent 512 GB SSD NVMe PCIe 4.0. Came with an Ubuntu 25.04-based AcerOS which is pure trash! I hated so much I almost sold the laptop to buy another MacBook Pro.

TIL I can `git diff -U9999` to visualize editing files in full, instead of seeing only the specific parts where it has changed. Useful to see changes along the whole file to really understand how your changes are affecting the file itself. I needed this just now to reason on my changes to my .zshrc

2:14 am and I was on my laptop, tackling the challenge of performing automated core reviews with AI: the pi agent running on a GitLab CI job with everything it needs to clone the repo, check the GitLab diff, then run a code review that includes, if it decides: web search, tool calling, etc. +

When I have these moments and some random Joe says “just do it with AI” 😡 all I think of is how much brainrot this person is suffering. The AI companies made such incredible marketing around their products that people believed it’s all magic.

Lots of people leaving 1Password for Bitwarden after 1P became supporter of DHH/Omarchy. Just wanted to say WELCOME TO THE CLUB, FELLAS! If yall have questions for someone using BW for quite a while (cloud version, no self-hosted; yet), send them it. Bitwarden rocks!

Gentlemen, I’m looking for ways to spin programs wrapped in Firecracker microVMs, with a DX as close as possible to smt like Docker Compose. Is there such thing? I’m in love with microVMs. Been reading about them and it’s the missing piece I been looking for in my dev/prod setup.

X shuts down apps that show its posts. Bluesky exists to ernable it. One of these networks is about promoting freedom, the other is not.

nitter.net is down. xcancel.com may go soon, too. all the respect to the folks at nitter for their services so far, but to be honest, X completely locking itself out of the web is probably a net positive for us all in the long term

Thinking on starting a new project on… CL. Oh god, take this immense desire of starting a new impossible project while I have another one, way more profitable, to work on!

Yep — and also titles, basic inline formatting like bold/italic/strikethrough, images, and code blocks. And tables — and Markdown tables are absolutely terrible.

Chris Coyier@chriscoyier.net

My unpopular opinion is that Markdown is 75% just because writing <p> tags sucks and 25% for lists and that’s it, nothing else is better or annoying enough to want a whole processing language for.

Claudinho fora do ar na segunda de manhã e os devs tudo assim

I did smt cool today. I had to rewrite an AGENTS.md to bring a establish a approach to AI engineering for my team. I am not a super expert in AI, so I don't have whatever it takes to craft a great AGENTS.md file. I ended up doing smt else instead of writing everything by hand:

I went to ChatGPT and: - asked for a script to get AGENTS.md from TOP 1K repos - loaded them in an AI chat session - started extracting patterns, lessons, productivity tricks, etc. - read it carefully, understood overall idea behind good AGENTS.md - then, asked for a AGENTS.md out of this learnings

I believe this will be an ongoing process. An AGENTS.md is a file that compiles the expected approach to AI agentic engineering – which aligns with what the team is employing as its culture. And, it tends to change over time – so AI instructions must evolve with it. Cool AI trick for this morning.

I'm working with #TypeScript after many years with #Elixirlang. GOSH how I MISS Elixir's super-cheap procs! Being able to solve tasks by breaking them up in smaller ephemeral procs, putting them over a supervisor to restart them if smt breaks, and not having to worry much about cloud costs is gold.
