Steam Controller ran out faster than we anticipated, and we hate that not everyone who wanted one was able to get it. We’re working on getting more in stock and will have an update on expected timeline soon.

Hopefully the same limitation that applied to Steam Decks can apply to all hardware in the future for their initial releases.

Maybe cancel all orders of scalpers who bought multiple orders of two each (I've heard that was the shopping cart limit), but leave my (successful) order of one controller alone, thanks. In the meantime people should be able to get on a reservation list.

I honestly want to preorder. I loved the original controller, I have 4 of them! Something I will miss as no one has mentioned, is the startup sound via the vibration motors, that was just a cool thing but if I could request a feature in future firmware, add it back, can be just disabled by default.

There's a significant demand for this controller, and is most likely going to be the controller that standardizes some of the extensive features it has. I want one but I cant have one regardless (it doesn't sell in my region)

Personally, I'd like a dedicated controller for Steam that has native gyro support so I can continue my Half Life 2 gyro playthrough. I don't need it badly enough to buy a scalped one, but would love to see third party seller a have this on their shelf at MSRP.

It's not worth paying a scalper for - you can buy it later at restock. Anyone who owns a Steam Deck will tell you that the configurability and flexibility of this controller is unbeatable. For me, FFXIV in controller mode but with a touch pad mouse is insanely useful. This controller can do that.

just steam input, which any steam deck owner came to appreciate, but i think is that every youtuber has been releasing videos about it from LTT, IGN, Gamespot, Giantbomb, retrogamecorps etc, lieterally creating some sort of perceived value, I am really dissapointed at valve.

thankful to know how to hit the api to grab one x3 I'm so excited i can't wait for all the fun esoteric controls i can dev into my game with all those inputs o.o guess ill finally have to add the steam lib to my game >.< praying for a steam frame devkit since my other headsets are now broken

The best method is being open with when restocks will be. At the moment, Valve wants the hype from the scalpers.

So glad I was able to order one before they ran out*, although at this point it exists only as an order number and a photo under "purchase history" of my account details. Will it ship in 7-10 days? in 2-3 weeks? Only The Shadow knows...bwahahaha. *pretty sure having Steam Wallet funds helped.

Very much enjoy the SteamDeck as an accessiblity option, where mouse and keyboard isn't comfortable for me to game with. Extremely heavy desire to order one as soon as it is possible to allow for more seamless transition to/from PC/SD. Was soul crushing to have the controller in cart and fail.

Just announcing a plan for restocks would tank the value of the secondhand market. I have a feeling this controller will be around for a hot minute given the growing popularity of PC-couch gaming. They're likely gonna restock before the holiday, but can't say for certain due to world events.

Glad I got it an hour late after a refresh and also the delivery is faaaast. Here's hoping Valve can restock just as quick, so my buddy can get theirs

I was going to buy it when the controller is on my cart and save it until later, but scalpers make it out of stock and making it into ridiculous high price rather than original price.

Wow. You guys actually finally came out and made a statement. It's a nothing burger, but shows/gives the illusion that you care. Now we just have to hope you actual do something to prevent this from happy with the next drop.

Managed to get my two, but please do pre orders that take game time and account standing into account. Clicking 'continue' for 35 minutes was stressful ;w;

Pleaseee Held off of buying a new xbox controller for 5 months since I wanted to save for the steam controller, sold out in thirty minutes. Ill try not to be at work next time i guess

I get wishlist notifs for games but I got nothing on the controller going live. idk if it's some setting I missed, a friend said the same thing though

Limit purchases to one per person based on account age and hours played, then open the window incrementally to everyone else to prevent scalper behavior.

If possible, could the next batch of controllers please only be sold to accounts that fit certain criteria like account age and recent activity? I think that would greatly reduce scalping. Appreciate you, Valve!

Please bring it back the system you used for Steam Deck. I just want to be able to put an order and get mine when it's my trun

Would preorders be a viable method to prevent/mitigate scalping? How'd that work out for the Deck? If preorders were a good idea then, why didn't Valve do it again?

Yeah probably should’ve implemented similar restrictions to the first Steam Deck purchases. I was lucky enough to get an early production Deck, not lucky enough to get a Controller, thanks to the lack of scalper prevention.

The psychology of scarcity marketing vs genuine supply issues is fascinating — our brains literally can't tell the difference between intentional and accidental FOMO triggers. Wonder how many people want it more now that it's sold out?

I really thought the purchase limit would stop scalping. Is it like a network of people with Steam accounts who share the profit???

I would appreciate a system that would give more time to people who can't spam a button for an hour while at work. Like random perfectly stable order pages over a 12 hours window or something. 1 click queue, wait for your possible turn in the next 12h period.

I'm hoping you use the profits from these controller sales to help subsidize the Steam Machine! $600 for the base model please! Or at least, give us a barebones model without ram, ssd, and no controller for $400, so we can scrounge up our own.

Is it safe to assume that stock was regionally allocated, and that if an order was placed then I secured one while stock was available?

As someone who tried to order right at 10am PST and ran into errors for an hour until you were just out of stock. Any future hardware launches need to work a lot better. I hit that continue button way too many times and never got through. My account is in good standing and almost 22 years old.

Making reselling against the TOS would be illegal in most of the world. And I personally don't want to throw our rights away for video games.

Ikrrr like I own the original steam controller they gotta see that and be like "oh shit" and then let me purchase the controller I have been waiting 10 years for...

Hey @valvesoftware.com please don't turn gaming into a class system, especially for hardware releases (Deck and Machine) that are aimed at getting more people into PC gaming. Limits like this would be far worse than what scalpers are doing.

You think giving invested players a guaranteed first chance to buy something they want is “far worse” than scalpers doubling the price and making the price inaccessible to a big share of the player base? Is there a gas leak in your house? Go look at the EBay listings for the Steam controller.

Yes, gatekeeping and elitism are pretty bad things. The best solution is being open with restocks and allowing pre-orders of those restocks, something Valve could have done before orders went live. Scalpers are often part of the marketing strategy - they're great for hype - so they chose not to.

thats kinda what they did with the steam deck reservations. judging by that reservation button thats visible in place of the out of stock button for a second when opening the controller page i THINK they will use that system again for frame and machine reservations.

You have to do something about the scalpers, time lock on accounts and buy limits. I wanted the controller but was unable to buy it do to working a job. That just feels so unfair, let alone not a single friend of mine got one. Not one. It sold out before any of us got a chance to even look at it.

really dissapointed, not because of them selling out but because you did nothing like the steam deck preorder queue, literally you sent this to every reviewer and then literally let scalpers do their thing. I am getting weary of ordering hardware from you in the future if you do nothing.

Can you do what you did with the previous steam controller and steam link and limit how many an account can buy at a time in 48 hours? That was the only way I was able to get either of those in the past. Also, what the ETA on the reup of Steam Decks?

You guys could do a pre order line, so people at least have a window when they’re supposed to get theirs in the future. It’s better than opening the Black Friday Sears doors for scalpers.
