some variation of this is what im expecting. jevon's paradox is going to push a ton of people who dont think of themselves as SWEs into weird hybrid pseudo-SWE roles, but the <p50 SWE who just writes java and doesn't bring any product or business insights to the table is turbo-fucked

a smaller (than now) number of absurdly paid software veterans who know the insides of the algorithms, the models, the hardware, and know where the bodies are buried. They will be paid 7fig+ a vastly larger (way more than now) number of slop-cannons, -janitors, and -plumbers, paid fine: 50-100k

I am beyond overjoyed because I've always loved the problem-solving and systems thinking aspect of software engineering. Being a keyboard jockey was where it fell apart for me. Anyway, I think systems-thinking minds trained in marketing and AI tools are the ones who will dominate going forward.

Yeaaah, I LIKE writing code but I can conceptualize the system I want to create so fast relative to the speed at which I've been able to build even a prototype that it's hard not to get discouraged by all the tedious gruntwork between me and the place where I get to do interesting thinking again.

Sometimes the gruntwork can be kind of meditative, and if you're learning something new it has real value because feeling the sharp edges on your ideas shows you where your conceptual model is wrong. Assessing when this is true and if you care is an important skill now!

I did the extremely laborious work of migrating a build to buck2 by hand recently, and I didn't really understand buck2/bazel going into this, so that was valuable to me. Now that I have a better understanding I'd probably ask an LLM to do it for me in the future.
